Don't speak if you haven't quit....

Jazphoto, Don't let her get to you. You are the better authority on the subject. I hate to say it but she's speaking from ignorance. If it really were that easy, why would anybody keep smoking? Why would places like the SSC exist? Danielle _____________________ The SSC Support Team

Hi All! Glad to hear such positive attitudes coming from my fellow recent non-smokers! Jaz - Yuck. Sorry to hear about the Celiacs. If you haven't already, you should check out some of the natural stores - they make a lot of gluten-free products these days. Tutti - It was good to hear from you too! (And everyone else!) We're all in this together! Jaz - My sister was a big-time smoker - she even smoked more than me! Whenever we were together we would smoke...it was kind of a "bonding thing", as we hid it from the rest of our family. Anyway, my sister quit smoking around 6 years ago. While I was impressed, amazed, and happy for her - I can now admit that I was also kind of sad...I lost my smoking buddy. During family get-togethers I had no one to sneak off with for a cigarette. And, when I visited her, I had to smoke outside. Looking back I have a few major regrets: (1) On some level, I selfishly wished she didn't quit and I was jealous that she "could" quit, as I felt like I "couldn't" at that time.(2) I was not supportive in an "involved" way during her quit...I didn't cheer her on, check to see how she was managing, etc. (3) I know that I spent time with her early in her quit and I smoked infront of her. That could not have been easy for her. Anyway, while I didn't verbally contradict her & minimize her efforts like your sister did, I recognize now that I was unsupportive in a passive-aggressive way. The nico-demon was working big-time! So, I guess my point is.... I hope/believe that in time your sister will quit smoking and will gain the perspective that we have as non-smokers. P.S. Your Stats Are Great!!! People get peculiar ideas. I've had similar discussions with people. The nic is gone from your system in 3 days, I've had people argue with me that it should take no more than five days to be free of cravings. They just don't know. Challenge your sister to go 3 days without a cig and then tell you that the cravings have gone. I have a friend who has never smoked. She keeps telling me I will fail, she knows me too well. She's hoping I will fail. Every time I talk to her she asks if I gave up yet. I think she needs to feel superior to me in some way. Jazphoto, I think you showed great restraint. I think I would have thrown something at her!! You are doing great. Don't worry about what others say - you know we speak the truth here! Lizzie :)
