Panic or Psuedoseizures?

Psuedoseizures; I would like to learn more about this also, as I have been on seizure medications in the past, and also suffer from some extreme muscle tension from time to time; extremely stiff shoulders and headaches, even though I am taking some medications now. I have noticed that different medications help this problem more than others.

Hello Susan, Pseudoseizure is a term applied to apparent seizures or "fits" that arise from emotional or psychological causes, as opposed to electrical discharges in the brain. Consciousness may or may not be impaired. They are not "faked" or "false", but represent some unconscious defense mechanism or "conversion" of emotional conflicts into physical manifestations. I would recommend that you see your Doctor and tell them exactly what and how you have been feeling. Also tell them that you have been experiencing muscle tightenings. Keep posting on the site, let us know how you are doing. Susanne

Now that I have totally weaned myself off of Celexa, and feeling good in myself generally, I unfortunately don't seem to have rid myself of panic attacks and they seem to be much more intense that before I took Celexa, almost as if my nerves are totally exposed because they have been masked by the Celexa for so long. The other day I had a couple of panics that were so bad they felt like I was having a fit or something (not that I know what a fit feels like). It started with my stomach churning big time and my muscles tightening and going rigid and it really scared me. Apparently, rigid musles etc could still be a kind of withdrawal symptom because its only 3 weeks since my last dose of Celexa. However I have now read that there is such a thing as a psuedoseizure which sounds just like a panic attack. Apparently people experience these quite subconciously but the reason for them is that you are craving care and warmth. I felt I could relate to that because although I feel very cared for at home, my parents have always rejected me (which they're doing at the moment) and it affects me really badly. Do any of you know whether you are actually experiencing a panic attack or a psuedoseizure and do you know what the difference is ie...would you have to pass out etc for it to be that which I didn't.
