My boyfriend used to get those same lumps in his earlobe. He took antibiotics. ALl meds have side effects....doesn't mean you'll have all of them. I have taken antibiotics a few times and i have never had any side effects. Just knowing of the side effects will probably cause you stress, but you still should take them for your health....you could ask the doc for a different prescription for one less likely to cause seizures if that would help you..... Hi there! Well, here's whats goin on :) The doc at the clinic said that it wasn't a panic to start the antibiotics ASAP so i thought I would wait until I could talk to my doctor on Monday morning. I'm glad it's sunday though because my ear is still very swollen and its spreading a little down below my ear. Can a sore ear make you feel nauseaous?? I have to go to work today but if I feel any worse, i'm sure I can come home. Thanks for the replies! :) Jen

Hi JenK, Another quick tip: If you experienced nausea with past antibiotics then be sure to take them with food. Discuss this with your pharmacist. Keep us posted Melanie

Thank you very much!! That does make me feel a bit better, especially since I woke up this morning and the "thing" hasn't drained yet. I think I'll get the prescription filled today before work. I have no known allergies to any drugs, let alone antibiotics. I had a staph infection in June and I was on erythromycin for a week and when that didn't work, cloxacillin. I had no troubles with those except some mild nausea. I also had to take penicillin for a week in september 2002 for a parotid gland infection. I was fine. So i suppose I will give Keflex a try :) I'm a little tired of having a sore ear every day, lol. thanks again! Jen

Jen, I just wanted to let you know that my mother in law is allergic to almost all antibiotics, but she can take keflex and this is the one they always prescribe to her when she has an infection. She is also very sensitive to certain side effects , but has never had any with this medication. Hope this makes you feel a little better.

Hi JenK, Thanks for posting your concerns :). As a Registered Nurse I can tell you that taking your medication for infection is really important. It takes up to three-four days before the antibiotics really start to set in. If in this time you start to experience side effects then stop the antibiotics and call your pharmacist or family doctor. With regards to the side effects, if 1 individual experiences a side effect of Keflex researchers will document it. These are "possible side effects" JenK. Do you have any allergies? If so then they should have been discussed with your doctor and pharmacist prior to taking this antibiotic. So the best thing for you to do at this time is to take the medication and if you feel that you are experiencing some side effects then stop the medication and call your doctor. Hope this helps? Hi everyone :) How is everyone doing?? I hope well. I have a question regarding meds, although they aren't for my anxiety, they are CAUSING a little anticipatory anxiety. Two days ago I woke up with a lump behind my ear that gradually got bigger and bigger as the day wore on, and more and more painful. I left it two days and went to the clinic this morning after there was no improvement with hot compresses. The doc said I had an infected cyst in my earlobe and that it needed to drain or be killed with antibiotics. I really hesitate taking antibiotics and use them as a last resort only because of the increasing numbers of drug-resistant bugs out there. Too many antibiotics aren't good! lol Anyway, he gave me 24 hours to try and get the hot compresses to drain it and then go on the antibiotics. The situation isn't dire or anything but it can spread if it doesn't drain soon. And it doesn't seem to want to very easily :mad: He gave me a prescription of Keflex. An antibiotic that is slightly different than the penicillin family. I was reading the side effects (I know, bad idea) and they mentioned a rare effect of seizures, upset stomach and hallucinations. I'm really now hesitant to take them. I dont want to get sick! I was just wondering if anyone has taken Keflex before and had any troubles with it?? Any advice would be very much appreciated. I'm stuck inbetween a rock and a hard place: my ear hurts but I dont want to hallucinate or have seizures and its a busy weekend at work so I can't be sick to my stomach. Thanks a trillion Jen :)
