Hi Interesting - The important thing is to distract and to take good care of yourself. Some people become housecleaning maniacs (unfortunately - this never happened to me...I'm still waiting for that phase to click in) I thought that I would do lots of reading but I found that I had trouble concentrating for the first couple of weeks. I spent alot of time at the gym and alot of time tucked under my covers watching mindless t.v. shows. I ate so much sour candy that my mouth was full of cankers. I also never went anywhere without a bottle of water or a cup of green tea (and usually a pack of cinnamon gum). Congrats on day 1..Keep up the good work! Interesting, What you are experiencing is very normal. Today is my first day back after many quit attempts and I'm experiencing those obsessive thoughts as well. They do go in time. It just happens naturally and will be replaced by all the other joys in life. Hang in there, you CAN do this. Intersresting, There is a lot of good info on this site. I remember those first days, it just seemed like I was posessed and obsessed with smoking. Distracting yourself is the key here. Walk, journal, clean, whatever just don't smoke. Take a little time for yourself. Find small rewards to help get threw the day, big ones to have something to look foward to. You are healing...All this craziness is a good thing. And temporary. Keep you reasons for quiting close and bennifits closer. I also like the idea of looking up addiction on web or even the effects of smoking....Scary stuff. There a saying on here.... It is better to be a nonsmoker with the occasional thought of smoking. Than to be a smoker with the constent desire to quit. N.O.P.E Not one puff ever... interesting, you are NORMAL!!! I used to think about smoking and dreaming about it all the time. Those dreams felt sooooooo real and I felt like I was cheating by smoking in my dreams. Strange what nic will do as it leaves our bodies. It has to screw with our minds. You are doing absolutely wonderful!!! Just keep the quit and check in as I just noticed you haven't today. Hope you are doing alright. hugs Kim My Milage: My Quit Date: 6/7/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 209 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 5,240 Amount Saved: $846.45 Life Gained: Days: 18 Hrs: 11 Mins: 18 Seconds: 51

Interesting... we have been where you are and know what you are talking about. I believe the obsession is what keeps us focused to keep going. Take really deep breaths. When we smoked, we constantly took deep breaths. Drink plenty of ice water and always remember N.O.P.E. (not one puff ever). That is how we quit and stay that way. Congratulations on your decision to take your life back from the addiction of smoking. interesting....the great thing about Day 2 is that you know you can get through a day without smoking, and you never have to go through Day 1 again. You have built up a certain strength by now that will help you get through today. And think how much stronger you will be each day! What you are doing is an amazing gift to yourself and to those you love! Congratulations...give yourself a little treat today...a special coffee perhaps? Pamper yourself and hug yourself...you deserve it! interesting...your mind is obsessed with quitting, and it will be so for a while. I think it's a combination of the extreme focus you have to use to get through the withdrawals and the junkie part of your brain nagging at you without end. Well, it will end if you just hang in there. Find a new thing to do or a new place to be. Tackle a big project today. Do some internet research on addiction. Work on the workbook or on a quit journal. I still add stuff to mine even after two years...inspirational posts, great poems, and so on. The main thing is don't light the next cigarette. Delay and distract. Come here and post. You can do it!
