Lots of slow, deep breathing....works like a charm. You'll enjoy being able to take in more air than before you quit, and its a slow inhale like when we used to smoke. It really does kill the craving. Boy, sometimes it is hard to remember.......... But, I do know that on my 2nd night of my quit, I got so ansy, aggitated, nervous, etc.... that I bolted out the door and walked a slow walk around the block. I talked to myself every step of the way. People must have thought I was nuts. So, every time I craved, I either shoved candy in my mouth, went for a walk, or just plain old plopped on the couch and listened to my hypnosis cd........... I'm sure I've forgotten quite a few..... But nice job with this. It is really interesting to find out how others cope (or coped!). Best wishes to all! 4my2girls My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/5/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 290 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 8,728 Amount Saved: $948.3 Life Gained: Days: 23 Hrs: 9 Mins: 50 Seconds: 36

well I have spent hours in the bathroom with an old toothbrush and bleach cleaning grout (such an amazing distraction!) - a wonderful hot bath w/bath salts, candles, lavender and sandlewood essential oils - calling a friend and just having a laugh - coming here and lending a hand and heart - cleaning the house (REALLY cleaning) :) - mall walking - riding my motorcycle - cleaning out closets and giving away stuff I no longer need - cooking some great chile - meditating and taking some time just to BE My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/5/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 293 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 10,259 Amount Saved: $1362.45 Life Gained: Days: 38 Hrs: 0 Mins: 22 Seconds: 29

One of my coping mechanisms is to remember that I by not smoking I am only gaining - I'm not actually missing out on anything positive. I also try to keep busy - you should see my house at the minute - it's like some sort of show piece it's so tidy. I've become fanatic about getting all the laundry cleared too. All this is good - I live in a really nice environment now. Remember rewards - plan them and indulge your imagination. It's money you would never have had if you continued to smoke so be big in your rewards. Go for a walk or a run. I've started a running plan - the couch to 5k programme - easy to find on google. It's very gradual and I'm feeling good on it. Remember that the craving will pass - if you have to just put your head down and go with it. It will not last forever. Remember that you are the one in control - not the 3 inch white stick. Write down everything that you are gaining by being smoke free. Read Alan Carr's book 'The easy way to stop smoking' - really good for helping to shift perspective on the entire smoking attitude. Just some thoughts there - hope some of them were useful. It was good for me to reiterate them so thanks for your post and the opportunity to do so. 2stubborn2smoke, This is a great idea for a thread just before the holidays! We can all share our coping mechanisms and learn what works for one another. I am a firm believer of relaxation! A hot bath and good magazine can do the trick for me! Water always keeps my hands and mouth occupied :) Ok members feel free to join in :) Josie _____________________ The SSC Support Team.
