I think the Anxiety Panic can go away i did have it but not now but i do still have the Agoraphobia i dont think that goes away but everyone is diffarent you can have the Agoraphoba without the panic and anxiety i have had it for over 20yr though i am not housebound. :)
I have a friend who suffered from panic attacks (very severe) when she was in high school and for many years after. She had taken several medications and became very dependent on xanax. Once she had children, she started to get better. She did have another bout of depression/panic but not as bad. She is now 33 and a year and a half ago she was pregnant again. She was on zoloft and quit cold turkey (which you should NEVER do) when she found out she was pregnant. Now she is one of the calmest people I know and she is medicine free and has not suffered panic/anxiety/or depression for a long time. So, yes, people do recover even from very severe cases.
Jaida, I've known several people who have had attacks, gotten treatment and haven't had a problem since. Mine started in '96, got really bad then tapered off. I hadn't actually had a full blown attack in over 3 years...until 12 days ago. I consider it to be a minor set back. I've learned so much more about the disorder in the past 12 days than I did back in '96...thanks to the internet. You have so many more resources than I had when it first started. Utilize them. It does get better. Change your thinking behavior. I can't emphasize that enough. No one told me that before but its all I'm hearing now and it really makes a difference.
I've cut out caffiene, started mild exercise, made my self think differently when I start feeling anxious and I listen to a Cognitive Behavior Therapy CD every night while I'm going to bed....and much to my surprise its starting to help me. There is no quick fix to this problem. You have to take an active role in your treatment and if every day is not perfect...don't dispare, they will get better.
Dear Jaide,
The answer to this is based on an individual basis. In some cases people may never experience attacks again or for a very prolonged period of time. And for those who continue to have attacks, they can be managed quite effectively through proper treatment.

Jaide,
Yes it can go away, or get to a remission state. I was in a remission state for around 4 yrs, this after being at worst, with no driving and agoraphobia. Stress made it flare back up again, so it is an individual basis. Some can go 20 years in a remissive state, and some can be panic free for life. Bottom life, no it is not a lifelong battle for all.
