Wow, Jaset you are doing great! Dogs are a great way to occupy ourselves when we first quit. I got a puppy on the 5th day that I quit and that dog gets lots of excercise, I can tell you that! As a suggestion, perhaps you can print some of the information that explains the withdrawal symptoms so this might help your wife to support and understand you. I coughed too, even when I never used to cough. Your lungs are trying to clear themselves out and this is normal. I just tried to take it one craving at a time and one day at a time and found that it truly does get better. Are you doing this cold turkey or using anything? Yep...I agree with Ter...and tomorrow....have all your tools ready (Drink lots of water, exercise, chew gum, post, eat carrots, chew on straws, drink green tea, go to the gym, etc.) and then do it all over again the next day....before you know it hell week will be over. Do every day one day at a time (sometimes one minute at a time). Before you know it, hell week will be over. It does get better, honest! jaset........a huge congratulations to you for quitting!!! You are going through the absolute worst of it these first few days....cravings should peak on the third day....after that the majority of nicotine is out of your blood stream (unless you use nicotine replacement therapy to quit) I used patches to quit. I used to get crazy when I thought I would run out of smokes! No cold turkey for me...even with patches it was a battle.. My hubby was a 2-3 pk a day smoker for almost 50 years...he quit cold turkey...he was down on the couch physically sick for a couple of days....but like you he held on....now he is quit for 5 years! The biggest aid you can have is WANTING to quit worse than you want to smoke. If you are there, then you can do this. Oh yeah, it's tough....and it doesn't just magically get cured in a few weeks either....but the worst IS the first week...the second should be easier....then you have to settle in for the long haul. You can probably see right now that there are triggers that can blindside you with cravings to smoke.....even when you begin to relax a bit, these can come from nowhere. So always have a plan of what you will do "instead" of lighting up. Dragging the dog is a good one LOL again congratulations...you sound positive and determined and that is exactly what it takes.
