Hello Den,
Happy, Parrot Lady and Kaiti have it right, you do need to want to quit more than to smoke.
In my 40 years Den I tried to quit many times, and I failed as often. (My story is in the Hall of Fame if you are interested.) The longest I quit was for 3 months. This time, I approached it all so differently. I decided I needed preparation and knowlege to succeed. No more New Year's Resolutions down the tubes! They never worked for me anyway!
I was lucky, I found this site at the start of my quest for knowlege, I did all the programme and set my date. In fact, I became so enthusiastic, I brought my quit date forward a week! I posted and read and learned. I had been doing things so wrongly before.
I threw everything I had at this quit, as I felt time was not on my side. I might eventually die still smoking, or more likely because of smoking!!! Yes it was hard....it was sheer Hell for a while!!! The thing which got me through the Hell was this site and all the friends here who carried me when I was down.
I realised that others had gone ahead of me. They had succeeded and could help me...this gave me the thing that makes a quit a success...DETERMINATION.
I fought a battle with Nicodemon. I personified him and took it as an insult that he could beat me. I wanted to win this war so much.
Right now, I feel I have won with a 2 year quit under my belt, but I never feel complacent. He is still there, and, given half a chance, would jump right back into my life if I let him. I will NOT allow that to happen!
Knowlege is power over the addiction. I feel that power now...it's wonderful!
Take heart Den, and take one day at a time. Those days mount up and if you are prepared get 'Attitude" and to fight off the Nicodemon each day, you will succeed! It will not happen overnight, and that is the other thing...patience. Allow time for your quit to become part of your new free life.
WHATEVER IT TAKES, JUST DON'T SMOKE!!!
Lolly. :)
