Thanks everyone for your comments and encouragment! Still doing great, but affraid of the weekend and what that will bring. Trying to think of fun activitites that do not involve the bar or boredom.

It's my second day in my third or so attempt to quit :) I kind of hate this time because this is the time where I believe in my will power. I start to throw out all ashtrays, lighters, buy teeth whitener, and see my future life as healthy, running marathons, with the occasional triathlon. Of course I hate this time because I start to feel I am too smart, too intelligent, too strong to start again. AND then.... I start again, that has been my past experience, and that is why I hate this time. I can deal with the symptoms, but it is the eminent failure that scares me now. I have the tendency to be good for a week or so, and then out with friends I have one, and then two, and then the next week I am smoking again. It is hard, because right now I am so pumped to quit. I know how much better I will feel, how proud of myself I will be, that I no longer participate in a habit I am ashamed of. I am scared of doing the same thing and forgetting all the benefits when out with friends, or dealing with a stressful situation, losing my brain one more time. I hope I can do it this time!!!!!

Me too...same as you! Several times, I tried to quit. I was Smoker...wanting to Quit Now...I am a Non-Smoker...wanting a drag of a cigarette! And.... remember NOPE FOR HOPE ;p Not one puff ever for Health on Planet Earth I found my worst trigger spot in my house (I found I always wanted to light up when I went past the dining room table) So...I made me a 3X5 card and wrote in big red Capital letters... HOPE...and taped it to the wall so I could view it in full sight It's the best in encouraging why I shouldn't light up If you take that "one puff"...your giving in, and it will make it that much harder to quit. If you don't take the puff..you HAVE QUIT! Oh White Teeth, My downfall in past quits have been the night's with the girls. So, in the beginning of my quit...I had to actually say no to the girls the first couple times. I had to protect my quit, and I had to get it in my head that I could go out...see people smoking, and not cave in and have one. I could only do this when I was sure I was ready to be stronger than the temptation. I'm happy to report that I have had much fun with my friends (even with one or two smoker's close by) and have not caved, and in the morning, I was sooooo proud. The realization that you will have a great time without smoking has to be acknowledged by you. You can go out, have a great time and not smoke. Think about this alot. Work yourself up for it. Realize the day will come, and you will be in that situation. The more you think about it...the better your plan will be when it happens. By the way...your attitude is fantastic...hold on to that, your doing great! You're right. Ol nic can sense a cocky quitter like a dog senses when you're afraid. It's also smart for you to be aware of this downfall potential. I think that in this awareness, you now have the ammunition you need to make it past that point in your quit and KEEP ON GOING. Congratulations on 2 days quit and keep up the good work. Anybody who has tried to quit should not feel ashamed of smoking. It is a very hard habit to give up and it will not help you to view yourself in a negative light. There are many very good reasons why someone should quit and focusing on those will help you to stay determined. Have a plan for how to deal with situations where you know you will be tempted. Focus on one day at a time and start thinking of how to reward yourself as you reach certain milestones in your quit. You gotta get past quitting being a "try" thing....you have to dash the "hopeful" thinking and replace it with POSITIVE thinking that you will continue to "choose" to not smoke. That's all this is....choosing day by day to NOT light up. Get it straight that this is a nasty "addiction" and that YOU are an ADDICT.....and that is why you slowly turn back to the smoking....you may actually have an easy time early on, cause you have it in your mind to return to it in a week or so???? Make no mistake about it....this addiction is insidious....don't think it can't operate like that. Remember.....this is an "addiction" and beating an addiction requires doing some planning. For example...if going out with friends early on weakens your resolve, then don't go! Stressful situations...know ahead of time what action you will take when the stress begins to build. taking a run, a trip to the gym, a hot shower, wash the car, wash the dog, borrow a cat and give it a bath LOL. HAVE A PLAN Don't rely on this temporary high to take you for longer than the first couple of weeks....get a list of reasons to quit...a list of benefits of staying that way.....get a reward program set up....things that keep you focusing on moving "forward".
