Life is a constant series of tests

Well we're into round 2! Husband came home yesterday. He wasn't exactly discharged he was more or less kicked out of the hospital because someone who was critically ill and on dialysis needed the bed. My husband is going to require more than I had expected as now he's even more exhausted. He'll need much attention. My anxieties are running high and I had a rough night with sleep so I'll head back to bed for a while before my busy day begins. Thanks to all of you for your words of encouragement and your thoughts and prayers. Now I need to rest ... ((((((((hugs))))))) Monica58 My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/12/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 26 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 523 Amount Saved: $234 Life Gained: Days: 2 Hrs: 22 Mins: 42 Seconds: 19

I haven't been at the SSC since Sunday. My husband had to go to emerg Monday morning. He had his right leg amputated almost 3 yrs ago due to complications caused by 30 plus years of being a diabetic and on Monday morning when he put on his prosthetic leg, he stood up and then fell back onto the bed. His right leg could not hold his body weight and his right arm was heavy and he had major problems using his hand/fingers. He was put through a barrage of tests, including cat scans and an mri. We just found out last night that he has suffered a stroke possibly caused by severe sleep apnea and they will perform tests regarding that matter and he may end up permanently on oxygen while he sleeps each night. He's already had 2 mild strokes and a heart attack in the last 2 1/2 yrs and his body is very ill in every imaginable way. He will remain in hospital while he gets some physio there and then a plan will put in place to decide what's next. He may come home and get physio here while using a walker, as well as a nurse to come in to help him with med's and set up his evening dialyis OR he may go to a rehab home. In the meantime, needless to say my anxiety has gone through the roof and yes, I did have one cigarette. Other than that I have not smoked. I will return when I can. Overall my own health - emotional and physical is hanging on the edge. I'm having a very difficult time and my dr's are aware of this. Please take some time to send up a prayer for my husband - would be much appreciated. My husband has been having physio and occupational therapy now for 5 days and he doing so beautifully. We will be having a family meeting most likely on Tuesday and they have already set up a spot for him at the rehab center. He will come home, by the looks of things mid to late this week and then go to the rehab home 2-3 days a week. A nurse from the hospital will come in for a few weeks to monitor his blood pressure, sugars and also his dialysis set ups. His emotional and mental state have worsened since the stroke. He needs things explained to him a 1/2 dozen times before he completely understands... they say this will improve in time. I'm preparing myself for his return home and have various people 'on call' for help in a number of ways. Can't possibly do it all by myself. My cravings for smoking have been scattered. Some days I have wanted to run to the store and other times I'm simply ok. Just taking it one day at a time with everything that is going on. I know that the man coming home to me is going to require me to be as strong as possible physically and emotionally. As well I will take advantage of his absence at the rehab center by doing things for myself. Hope all is with you .. Stay strong with your quit. Well Phillip, I'm just barely hanging on by a mere thread on a number of levels and have so often, as I said in my post wanted to run to the store for a pack. I'm doing all I can at this very moment, as I watch the clock ticking away KNOWING that the store opens in less than 15 minutes. The cravings have been SO bad every day especially this weekend. My husband is only 51 yrs old and for the past 5 yrs it's been a living hell with all that he has endured. His body is weakening constantly and his immune system is so bad. Happy my heart goes out to what you (sounds like your post is written in the past tense) had to endure. So you know exactly what this is like. As hard as it is on me it's 1,000% worse for my husband. But as all of my friends, family and my friends here keep telling me -- to take care of me and I'm doing all that I can in that respect. Been doing my breathing exercises with my husband in person and on the phone .. seems to help us both. Well today is a new day and he had some complications with other things over the weekend so the specialists will be in to figure out what else is going on. I'm absolutely exhausted... Thank you all for reading my posts. Know that your support is like gold to me. Thank you all for your kind thoughts and prayers. I will see my husband today and will relay your wishes to him. Yes, I am doing what I can to look after myself. I took yesterday off from going to the hospital and tried to get as much rest as possible. After I return from hospital today my best friend is coming here with take out food and we're having dinner here at my home. Once again.. I thank you so much for your support. Monica, you are a goddess. I always thought that graphic thingy was a fairy, but clearly it has more power. I stand in awe of you, and I'm giving you a standing ovation for standing up to that ignorant clod who visisted your husband, God love him. (The husband, not the clod.) You are such a treasure -- I'm sorry that I haven't been a larger part of your cheering section of late, but you know that I've been attending to the sordid details of your life and standing in complete awe of your power and strength. You amaze me. peteg My Milage: My Quit Date: 10/30/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 104 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 5,246 Amount Saved: $572 Life Gained: Days: 19 Hrs: 3 Mins: 56 Seconds: 10
