Steve!! *big hugs* I know exactly what you're talking about. I agree with the inner ear thing. It won't help, but alas it's not as simple as that. I get vertigo a lot and have sensitive sinuses. Vertigo and panic are like petrol and fire! So it's possible you may be the same. Because physicaly speaking vertigo will give you a fear of standing and walking, especially standing in queues. It's not just a fear of heights. So yeh, that would make Basophobia ten times worse for you! Oh god and I totally know what you've been through with dope!! That's really bad for panic. I've been clean for about 7 months now and notice a big difference. The biggest challenge for me at the moment is dealing with all my mates (all of whom are very understanding and supportive of my panic) But it's the second hand smoke of their dope, eirgh freaks me out. God and being a musician, you can imagine the amount of second hand dope smoke. I don't have anything against it, if people like using it. But jeeze it's difficult for me to deal with as it makes me so anxious. I'm sorry I can't be more helpful than this. I hope I've been consolidating in the least. Take care Steve, I feel for you. :)

Thanks Jaime, that's exactly what I planned on doing. I see a new doctor the 21st & I already printed out 3 pages about that term for the anxiety symptom I found for what I have. I'm also going to freaking write an essay on the way I've been feeling; the thoughts & symtpoms going on in my head & body. And I'm down to see a good therapist & I'll sum up my whole **** life story & concerns on paper if I have to. This s**t is getting pretty old & I ain't getting any younger.

You might want to research information on this disorder and bring the printed out info to your psychologist, tell them about your bad experience at the funeral and see if they can help you.

Thanks Betty & Pamela. I don't smoke or drink I have been clean for over a year but I'll admit I used to drink heavy to numb & mask all my symptoms. My tolerance for alcohol was so high it wasn't even funny. & I had my ear canal checked out years ago & just about everything physically possible to rule evrything else out. I wish it was something else! I do have horrible sinuses & a very poor sense of smell though. I have been feeling so out of it laetly. I hate this. & that's Ok Betty when I said I turned out poorly I meant that I still can't get over that this happened to me, never in my life did I think this is where I would be in life at my age. I miss being upbeat & healthy. But you're right I didn't ask for this. None of us did. But the brain cells I killed was my fault in a way. I was so much sharper when I was younger.

Steve, DON'T SMOKE POT!!!! When you have anxiety and panic pot will do the opposite to you than what it may do to your friends. People with PD don't like to lose control so we will try to fight the effects of the marijuana. Which you can only do so much of because the drug will effect you no matter how hard you try to fight it. When you begin to feel the effects of it instead of chilling out and going with it like most people do you will instead have a major episode of panic. Trust me I've been there I never was able to smoke pot or drink alcohol it always made me panic. PLus it will make you a worthless piece of ****. Not trying to sound preachy, but it's just not a good thing to do. If you want to get your panic under control you've got to be healthy and live a clean life.

Hi Steve, First of all, I'm really sorry to hear about your grandfather's passing. I can definitely see how that whole experience could trigger some negative things happening after. I can definitely relate to feeling uncomfortable in stores...it seems the grocery stores around here get bigger and bigger and brighter and brighter. Have you checked with your doctor to see if maybe have an inner ear problem? Another thing is sinus problems...last year when I had a couple sinus infections, I was dizzy a lot. I don't know if that's helpful, but at least it could be something to knock off the list. And as for what happened after you smoked a joint, well, um, can't help ya with that one. (Just Say No!) Maybe someone else here had a similar experience? I'm sorry that you feel like you've "turned out" poorly - it's not your fault! I know that's not much of a consolation coming from a perfect stranger, but if you can try focusing on something you like to do at home maybe - playing music, art, writing, whatever, you could see that there's more to your life than this disorder. Oh, and by the way, I've heard that if you feel like you're going to pass out, you should tighten the muscles in your thighs and calves...I assume until the feeling passes (I heard it on Dr. Phil, and then I had others agree) Take care. betty

I saw my Grandmother faint infront of me at my Grandfather's funeral which was a huge turning point in my life..I was not ready for that maybe that has been planted in my subconscious but This might sound totally bizarre but shortly after I had a dream(before I even saw a pshyc) that one called me up & I fell through a table. A while back around that time during a heavy night of partying, the next morning, right after I smoked a joint I started freaking out around a crowd inside my head, I remeber it was hot as hell outside & I just walked to my friends car & woke up to a few people I knew helping me up who told me I actually fainted right on the concrete. A few years back in my job, out of the blue right infront of alot of customers I got that same feeling & it kept coming back again & again freaking me out, I started getting sensitive to the lighting...& I still have it to this same day. I can hardly ever stand up withought feeling all wobbly, faint, tense & dizzy. & When I'm walking I get the same symptoms but to a lesser degree ..lately it's been getting worse. & lines..forget it. Stores are getting bad sometimes especially when your ex works there, I feel crazy & avoid it more. She lives down the street from me & I always catch her driving by me when I'm outside but I haven't spoke to her. 2 nights ago, me & a friend walked to the corner store & I saw a girl I went to highschool & even middle school with & I just feel like **** that I turned out like this. It's really starting to get to me. Sorry to be full of answers Betty, Steve
