Question - Any Writers out there?

for 18 år siden 0 583 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Anatis, Not a writer, but I draw. I have not sat down and drawed anything in months. All of a sudden I had the urge over holidays.. Mainly becuase my hubby smokes. I wanted something to keep me busy while he smoked..... Anyhow..Idea for you.. Take a mini tape recorder, and say whats going on on head. Then when your writing skills come back. you have not missed anything. :p Grace My Milage: My Quit Date: 8/8/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 141 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 2,832 Amount Saved: $564 Life Gained: Days: 10 Hrs: 1 Mins: 52 Seconds: 43

gr8 response Dutch! I was like that. I'm a writer/poet/artist!! I found it real hard 2 do my poetry and lost all hope 4 drawing and I had no idea what 2 do for a short story, but in time it all came back once I began 2 relax. lol. And now I've written 15 episodes of a mini-series soap opera, several collabos and singles in poetry, mom's portrait 4 a christmas present and so on. ;) U'll get it back soon! Hi Anatis - this happened to me too. I'm writing my phd dissertation and I would do the same as you - step out, have a smoke, collect my thoughts and run back in to write in a mad rush. I had trouble concentrating for the first couple of weeks and I was terrified that I'd never get this thing written. Then I started running. I found the endorphin rush had a similar effect - just cant do it 15 or so times a day lol. It gets better I promise. Actually, I'm much more focused now and I can work consistently for longer periods of time - and I'm not wasting time outside half the day. It will just take some time for your body to adjust. As I said before: Writing, painting or any other art has nothing to do with smoking. I know people don't like to hear that but it's true. A real writer or painter or musician can play no matter what. If you are a real artist you can do anything as you did when you smoked. Maybe in the beginning of a quit someone cannot concentrate but it all should come back, and it will. Just don't make a big deal about it. Dutch :) :) :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 4/1/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 271 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 6,782 Amount Saved: 799.45 Life Gained: Days: 37 Hrs: 7 Mins: 40 Seconds: 57

Hi there, I'm a writer and a painter and in my first month I was too busy quitting to write or paint. It all came back to me. It's all in your mind. If you THINK that you cannot write, you can't. If you THINK you can, you can. That's how it works. You say: it tempts me to start again to be perfectly honest. That's the junkiethinking. You want to go back to smoking, like you did after the 8 month quit. The demon in your head tells you that you need to smoke to be able to write. Well, the demon..... does NOT excist. There is no demon, it's your thoughts. You THINK you can write again if you smoke. Not true. Smoking has nothing to do with writing, painting, walking or what ever you THINK. If you are a real writer, you can write whether you smoke or not. That's how the brain works. Don't think about smoking as something good, because you know, deep in your heart that that isn't true. It's all in the mind. Dutch. Anatis, Give it time. I used to compose a lot (songs), hadn't done so for several years. Quitting smoking has done the following: I feel more emotional and expressive. I can sing better (something to do with clean air filling the lungs). I used to chain smoke when I wrote songs. Can't remember that producing any No 1 hits for me..... i'm no writer, but i do know that your mind is like mashed potatoes for the first 3 months, a complete bloody shambles. It comes right tho, like a machine - your turn it on in the morning & away it goes at 200 mph ! the problem you face is... will your hands be able to keep up ? Anatis, You have received a lot of good advice! It has always been in you and will continue to be there :) Your body and life is in the process of healing and it will take some time. Give yourself some relaxation and ease the stress. You have made a great choice and we are behind every step of the way :) Josie _____________________ The SSC Support Team.
