Please Help for sensitive/allergic skin and Patches

Moqueen, you might want to try a cream after he takes the patch off. If it is an allergic reaction, antihistamine will help ease the symptoms. But of course, I'm not a doctor, so here is the obligatory "you should see a doctor". Anyway, can you imagine, if the patch is doing that to his skin due to an allergy, what is it doing to his insides? Tell him to imagine his lungs look like his skin, and that might help him not go back to smoking! Wishing you both well in your wonderful quits, Denise My Milage: My Quit Date: 10/16/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 24 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 735 Amount Saved: $180 Life Gained: Days: 2 Hrs: 20 Mins: 44 Seconds: 23

Dear Moqueen & hubby, I developed a severe reaction to the adhesive used on the patches. I tried more than one brand to no avail. The rash would remain and itch for sometimes more than a week. I ended up using the Commit lozenge and it did wonders for me. I wish your husband well and congrats on 50 smokefree days. You two are awesome!!! The cream sounds like a good idea to at least clear up his skin. I'll ask at the pharmacy again tomorrow. OK, so I went to see the pharmacist Thursday and they basically told me it was due to the adhesive and that they are all similar. In her experience, once someone is allergic to one brand they have the same problem with all the brands.... So, I bought him a Nicorette inhaler. He has been off the patches for 2 days now and is using the inhaler but not much. So far he is not smoking which is good! Apparently, we don't have the commit lozenge here in Quebec yet but he is going to the US next week so he might be able to get some there. He really would prefer the lozenge. Thanks for the replies everyone. To see a doctor in our area means a 3-4 hour wait in a clinic since we don't have a family doctor (we have been on a 2 year waiting list to get one, a GP). I will possibly have more luck with a pharmacist so I will go there today and try to get some more info. The red part is only where the patches were and the marks last such a long time. I spoke to someone who had the same problem and it was an allergy to the adhesive....but my hubby is somewhat stubborn and still puts one on??? Oh well... I will let you know what he ends up doing. Hi everyone! My husband is using the Nidoderm (so am I) patches and is now at 49 days. At first the patches were fine, but the last 3 weeks have left him with large pink marks. You can count up to at least 15 of them in varying shades, the lighter being the oldest one. The marks also itch as they are slowly healing. He has sensitive skin and says that if he has to give up the patches, that he will start smoking again!!!! He asked that I investigate other brands for him to try. Are there any patches for "sensitive" skin? Has anyone else had this problem and what did you do about it? Any input will be much appreciated. Thanks and have another great smoke-free day! Moqueen - this is definately a question for the Doctor or the Pharmacist....49 days is great and your hubby definately doesn't want to lose his quit now. Please, let us know what you find out....... Moqueen, Please do consult your pharmacist, he/she will be able to provide you with some options. Danielle _____________________ The SSC Support Team

Moqueen, I also have semi-sensitive skin and I am using the same patches that you mentioned. when I take the patches off they do leave a red mark - but only for about a day. I would check with the doctor if the red mark lasts any longer than a day. I hope that your hubby doesn't start smoking again...maybe try gum. kat My Milage: My Quit Date: 10/23/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 16 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 333 Amount Saved: $80 Life Gained: Days: 1 Hrs: 2 Mins: 25 Seconds: 8

I had that red itching thing from the patch after about two weeks so I just quit using it. I survived. is the red spot where the actual patch is or have you perhaps developed a reaction to the adhesive in the tape around the patch? Talk to your doctor, or the pharmacist may be able to give you advice. If it's the adhesive, changing brands might help? Katy
