Anxious Thoughts

Yeah that€™s more what it is Trish, it€™s not about running form the stop light, it€™s about ramming my car into oncoming traffic, it comes down to the fear of hurting myself or others, but it€™s usually in a specific way, like what if I just ran over the people in the cross walk, stuff like that.

Jamie, In having panic attacks, an often common anxiety provoking situation is getting caught by a stoplight. It was for me! And the thoughts are more "What if I just totally lose it and go crazy, and hit the gas", but we dont act on it. It came to the point on my daily driving I knew where every stoplight was, and if I was a bit down the road, and it was already red, I drove a tad slower, knowing when I reached there, it would be green.

Hi there Jaime :) Most of my anxious thoughts are based on paranoia. I fear going crazy or losing my memory. Even though logically I know it's only part of panic disorder. I get fixed on different things. For the last couple of weeks I've been paranoid of absent mindedly eating a cigarette butt instead of putting it out in the ash tray. I must admit this particular paranoia/anxious thought has got to be the silliest one yet haha. But ya know, it still sucks the same as all the other silly obsessions I've had and makes me feel crazy too. errm whatelse. Lots of anxious thoughts attached to food. Like I'll check used by dates obsessively. I chew to the point where whatever it is turned to mush because I'm anxious about choking. errm Oh yeh I've become pretty much a clean freak. Wash my hands after patting the dog and clean my cup twice before using it. Silly things like that. I've never felt the need to run a red light. But heaps of people with Panic disorder feel the need to 'run'. Get away from a situation where they're standing still. Standing in queues is a big one. Anything with being idle really. My mum had agrophobia when she was younger. She felt faint and panic symptoms when she had to wait or stand still for a while. She hated being on trains and standing in queues. Hope this helps a bit. Good luck with everything, keep us posted :)

I was wondering what kinds of thoughts people have. I told my psychologist some of mine and she said she needs to talk to colleagues to see if I might have something else other than panic disorder with agoraphobia. She said my thoughts are specific, I feel like I€™m going crazy but I think something specific like I€™ll be in my car for example and just have the urge to run the red light, I never act on it but sometimes they get really bad and it makes the panic so much worse and it really makes me feel crazy.
