is it going to be like this forever?

Hi there, It has been a week since I have not posted and I feel guilty about that. I am still smoke- free, but still have rough cravings for a cig. This stop-smoking journey has the ups and downs but I am convinced that I will always mourn for my loss. This week was like the hell week (well maybe less rough)but it is terrifying that my mind is stacked to this addiction. Is it going to be like this forever? Well last Saturday a smoker friend came home but she has forgotten a hole pack of cig. Not a second thought, I throw them away!!!!!!! Hang on tight, Tsikos. This journey does get better, it probably just doesn't feel that way right now. Back to basics. One day at a time. Keep reminding yourself, "this too shall pass." You're doing wonderfully well. And great job getting rid of that pack. Post here often, it REALLY helps. Cheers, Jan My Milage: My Quit Date: 10/16/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 23 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 696 Amount Saved: $207 Life Gained: Days: 2 Hrs: 12 Mins: 52 Seconds: 10

hi mate I understand how you feel.I thought that after the first month I would forget it not so...... Month 2 not so Month 3 not so All I can say is that your body gets used to the cravings andtakes control of them rather than them controlling you .They are stii there but you recognize and gradually learn to ignore them.I am not there yet but I am not going back! tsikos, I also had a difficult quit. They say that nobody can tell you "when" the cravings end, but I was wondering "IF" I would ever feel comfortable!!! I was miserable for a LONG time in my quit! However, I'm here to say that, with a few rare exceptions, I am very comfortable in my quit. It WILL get easy. That doesn't mean that you won't have difficult times where you will crave and mourn for your lost cigarette, but there will come a time when those cravings are few and far between and they will just keep getting fewer and further... I promise you! Don't give up that quit! It's very precious and special! You will LOVE your quit once you are comfortable! Hang in there! Crave the Quit! I think something that would probably help you a lot is for you to try to change your perspective. Instead of looking at quitting as a loss, look at it as a gift of life. Celebrate instead of mourn. This is what I did. And in the beginning I had to fake it till I made it. In other words ... ACT how you want to FEEL. Congrats on 40+ days ... that is AWESOME! tsikos... I know exactly what you mean. Yesterday, I remember the exact spot you are in and posted what got me through it at the time. I will go bump that up for you now. It really worked for me. Hopefully it will for you as well. It is located in the General forum called "Are you thinking of Giving up?" Hi tsikos, Been there and remember being convinced I would feel the loss forever even if the stress of it was reduced. When I first quit I knew how many minutes I hadn't smoked let alone how many hours and days. Every minute I didn't smoke was a miracle and I couldn't imagine spending the rest of my life in such a miserable state. On the 4th November at exactly 16:16 (to the minute, notice) I smoked my last cigarette. It's two years and an enormous achievement, but did I remember and celebrate? No, because I'd complteley forgotten that the day was anything other than a normal day. I'd forgotten that I'd been a smoker. I don't crave them any more and I certainly don't miss them. Stick with it tsikos, the cravings reduce given time and time goes quickly.
