hunting for a cigarette

I am now at 11hrs and 17 min. I so want a cigarette. I found myself hunting for one that wsa maybe left behind somewhere. But know luck. Then I walked in to my bathroom and lo and behold 1/2 a cigarette, that I could have seen all day. Well I didnt smoke it but I didnt throw it away. I feel like I have to keep it for a severe emergency...Why cant I get rid of it, I got rid of everything else and I am holding on to this butt like its gold...haha Patti

Okay well last night i flushed it. You all are so supportive, I just couldnt imagine having to start over just because I smoked a stale cigarette butt. Not worth it!!!!

Chicky, Go ahead and cry....but make sure your tears hit the cig and get it all wet, then chop it up into little pieces and scatter the ashes out in the yard...then walk back inside and beat up a pillow. It can't stay there with you. You just have to make it to the next hour. Then the next hour after that and before you know it it will be morning....and you have completed your first day. How's this for a visual: that last cigarette is the one that will give you lung cancer. The others are right, flush that thing. That will be the fist test behind you and each one after that will get just a bit easier. There is always going to be a first test when quitting. That first time past the convenience store after 12 hours without a smoke - the half-pack you find in your glove compartment. that first test is the one most of us have failed soooo many times. But when we pass that first test, it is like one door gently shutting behind us. There are a LOT more tests ahead, but that first one is the big one. Getting over that first hump is so important. Please throw it away and tell us about it. I am currently doing the same... I don't know why I am keeping it but for some reason it is the thought that I can have it if I need it that is motivating me to walk away from it. I feel if I have it then I am not constantly thinking about going a buying a pack. Does that make sense? Are you feeling the same way? you know the first time I quit, i kept 1/2 pack of cigarettes in case of emergency - of course the emergency happened 4 days later and i smoked them all. There is absolutely no emergency that will require a cigarette....if we smoke, we delay the whole process another day. Get rid of that cigarette...honest...you need food and water to survive...but no smokes...i promise!
