Mini-Attacks?

for 21 år siden 0 201 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
The hives are still at it. Thats 4 weeks tomorrow. Some mornings they are on my face, talk about not wanting to leave the house, I feel like the elephant man. Still, I go about my business and pay them no mind other than an occasional scratch. Tese are the most annoying things I could imagine. Thanks for the advice Ann-Marie. I know that my Lipitor specifically instructs me to avoid grapefruit. The specialist Im seeing has assured me that these are harmeless and will fade in time. I guess I just dont understand why I would get my first case of these so late in life or why they dont have some cure for them or at least know what the cause is. I have heard that stress can be the trigger. Maybe a cruise is what I need. I wonder if the doc can write me a scrip for a week in the Carribean? I'd like to see my co-pay on that one! :) Mike

Hi Mike I suffer from mini attacks as well - sometimes it is triggered by something I have eaten - chocolate or sugar at night seems to throw me right into one and the only thing that helps is taking a xanax - for the past few days in work I have felt them come on right after lunch - it is my own fault for tuning into things that my body is doing and assuming it is the beginning of an attack and although I try not to let it accelerate into a full blown attack by trying to think rationally, sometimes I dont have that grat a success. I am trying to pay attention to what may be the trigger food wise and avoid that. I have already eliminated sugar and caffeine - I dont know what else is left!! Thanks for listening. Debbie

Have a little talk with your pharmacist. For instance, it's surprising how many meds interact with grapefruit.

Mike, Just a thought, but besides looking at your dietary intake, I would also look to any changes in laundry detergent, soaps, shampoo, cologne. Any of these things could cause hives also. I would have to tend to think its not the medication, since you have been on it for quite awhile. But then again I could be wrong. Trish

Time for an update. First, thanks for the responses. The mini-attacks have stopped for now and I have had a relatively smooth week. I say relatively smooth because I have had a bad case of the hives for the past 16 days. I am trying to figure out if the hives are associated with any of my medications. I dont understand how I could suddenly develop a reaction to medication I have been taking since May though. I went to a specialist and he told me it was likely something I ate or some medication. I began looking at my foods and there was nothing out of the ordinary except....some home-made beef jerky I got at a country fair the day before the hives appeared. Has anyone else suffered hives? Was it the meds or some dietary issue or was it ever determined? I have read that the cause often remains a mystery. How about duration? I have read 6 weeks is not uncommon. So I have this mental thing that I am trying to find the cause of. It sometimes lasts for weeks on end and I cant pinpoint the trigger. Then I get this physical thing I am trying to find the cause of. It sometimnes lasts for weeks and....well you get the idea. Oh well, off to a day at work, that should solve all my woes...not! :) Mike

Hi Mike, I too had a wonderful weekend and then yesterday I had to go to work. I love me job, I am a teacher for goodness sakes and I have panic. Anyways my husband had to take me to work, When I got into my classroom I felt horrible, faintness, dizzy, sweating then cold, couldn't stand up. I think to myself what the heck is going on here. I too get these mini-attacks, especially when driving. I get like a unconscious feeling or a blackout feeling, but I am still here. I feel like if I drive faster the mini attack will go away. I use to drive across country by myself, now I can't even drive 4 miles to work. It's sooooo frustrating to me. What I normally do in the car is turn up the radio and sing as loud as possible. Goodluck to you, breathe and relax :) :)

Lack of sleep and stress during the previous days activities seem to be adding up to a trigger for me. Example: Sunday was a day filled with chores. We were re-doing one of our bathrooms and moving fixtures around most of the day. The evening was filled with rushing out to eat tryine to get the kids in bed on time etc. By the time I wound down and got into bed it was 10:00 pm. I didnt drift off to sleep until 11:30. The alarm went off at 6:00 and I had an uneven day started buy the mini-attack Monday morning. Yesterday was was quite different. I went to work, no meetings no pressure. I came home, had a calm dinner and got the kids in bed by 8:30. I was in bed relaxing by 9:00 and turned off the lights at 10:15. This morning I feel great and no anxiety (knock on wood) yet. Now if I could just figure out how to get some more hours into the day so I could sleep more and get everything done I need to. :confuse: Mike

Hi Mike, I suffer mini-attacks as well. I believe the reason for their short nature (for me) is that I am able to short-circuit them but changing my thinking into something more positive and not let the attacks go into full blown panic, although, on occassion, I still suffer attacks that last more than hour. I hope these mini-attacks eventually subside for you and you are panic free! God Bless Sherri

I had a great weekend but this morning I had a small setback. I took a xanax and am doing much better now though. I had a "flash attack" this morning, that is like a really quick panic feeling, like the bottom just dropped out of your insides. It feels like an elevator going from the top of your head to your feet in the express mode. Then you feel drained after. The entire thing only takes about 20 seconds and then gradually it resolves itself. Does anyone else have these Mini-Attacks? If so, have you ever figured out the cause? Mine seem to be triggered bt a specific fear, one that has been addressed many times and yet returns time and time again as though I have not yet completed my dealings with it. I concentrate my efforts on this matter and it is gradually getting better but it does pop its ugly head in sometimes like in-wanted dinner guests. :) The mini-attacks are more of an annoyance than anything else and seldom cause any discomfort longer than a minute. So, whats up with these, am I alone in this? Any avoidance techniques someone wants to share. This would be one of my final steps to being somewhat normal on an ongoing basis. Mike
