Help with Medicines (Zoloft)

Hi, Anxiety Girl! My job is only 1/2 mile from home. I went back to this job a month ago (I left it for 2 years). Before that, I was working about a half hour away. That was very difficult as my symptoms grew more and more over the 2 years (and snow and bad weather turned the half hour into an hour or more!). I couldn't drive myself in the end, my hubby would take me and then go to his job (poor guy). Being closer seems to be the key for me. I don't deal with the stress of rush hour like I used to. I would shake all the way to work, but I had no choice but to go...otherwise we would lose our house. I think what made it harder then was that I didn't like the job. I worked for 7 years at this job and enjoyed it and felt (feel) safe there. I take a 1/2 of a .25 of xanax when I arrive, because that is the hardest time for me. (It's a REAL small dose, but psychologically it helps.) Because the job is busy it seems to be good for me because it takes my mind off my fears/depression/panic, etc. (The other job was so quiet and isolated that all I thought about all day was how sick I felt and what a long drive I had home.) I find that for me being close to home really helps. If I'm tired or feeling bad at the end of the day, I'm home within 2 minutes after work. It takes a lot of stress off me. I am going to give you my e-mail address. Feel free to e-mail me. I'd like to try to help you get out of the house a bit more than taking your daughter to school. Even if it is places that are close...it really helps. Also, there are some subliminal tapes for agoraphobia that I want to tell you about. I forgot about them...they helped me years ago and last year I found them again online and was dealing with illness and put them away and forgot about them again. I pulled them out last night and used them and I did really well today. It is "FuppedDuck01@aol.com". I hope to hear from you!

Hi Paulina, Thank you! I do have one question though. I have agraphobia and I literaly don't leave the house. The only thing I do is bring my daughter to school in the morning. I would love to hear how you go to a job everyday, especially a very busy one. Any tips or information, I would be greatful. Thanks again

Wow, Anxiety Girl, I'm so glad for your triumph!! I wish I could be off work for a few weeks and go through the side effects of the Zoloft, but I have a VERY busy, demanding job that I just went back to after 2 years (they actually came to my other employment and asked me to come back) and there is no way I can be sick and perform my tasks. Maybe, in the future, if I ever get a vacation, I will try it again and just go through the beginning side effects. For now, I am going to grow my world a little bit at a time, by myself (with a small amount of xanax). Even if I can only drive within a 10 minute radius alone...that's great for me, at this point. Every step helps so much! I wish everyone the best and make sure to "pat" yourselves on the back for every positive step you make...no matter how small you think it is!! :)

Paulina thats great you are feeling better. The zoloft actually started working for me after like 2 months. The diarhea went away, and I haven't had to take a xanax in about a week now! I also went driving through our town, which is a big big step for me also. Good luck and keep posting, I like to see how people are doing.

Just to update...unfortunately, I got horrible "runs" from the Zoloft after 3 days and had to stop taking it. I don't think the SSRI's are for me. But, the good news is that I have been doing a little better these past few days. I'm still taking my xanax (which helps a lot). I even drove down the street today, by myself, and got my nails done. That was a big step for me and I'm really happy about it! Good luck to all!! :)

Lisam if you look in our Outside Resources for the AADA, you might get some info to help you in your search for a support group. Failing that, if there is a mental health clinic or hospital in the area, give them a call. They will know of existing groups, and if none exist, they may consider a request for one.

I am also going threw a really bad time. I feel like I am going to die. I feel my hands go numb, tingling on my arm, sweaty palms and clammy, nausiated and all. I am on Zoloft, however I do not think it is a high enough dose. I was taking only 25 mg adn just upped it to 50. I have not really had the side affects. I think that maybe you should not read the side affects adn someone else read them and if you feel anything you can ask them if it is a side affect...? I need to get better. Does anyone know of a good support group in the tri county Michigan area???

I am currently on zoloft and I didnt think it was working all that well. I even posted something. The only thing I can add is I have no side effects at all, I mean none. At first I had a headache that lasted for about 3 weeks but that was a small price to pay I thought. I do have diarhea tho, but I am also taking xanax when needed. I think my anxiety got worse in the beggining too. I dont really know if its working tho, my husband says I seem better to him. I think it takes a while to show the effectiveness. My advice to you is to try it. I guess it had little side effects, but a little headache and diarhea isnt in my book a bad side effect. Keep me posted, I am curious to see how you like it.

Mahogony...Thanks for giving me some courage! You are right about all the weird feelings we feel everyday, anyway. I guess a lot of my fears come because I don't want to feel any weirder or physically sicker than I already do! But...like you...I will keep "plugging away" to get better. Good luck to you and please let me know how you do with the Paxil. That's probably the next one on my list if Zoloft doesn't work. Thanks Again! :)
