My Mom's smoking again!

for 18 år siden 0 8 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
I know it's her decision and I'm going to back off. Actually, Mom just smoked a cig in front of me and I can honestly say that I'm not tempted! I think it stinks more than anything! I love being a non-smoker! I woke up one morning and I only had one cig left. I was annoyed, it was cold outside and I didn't want to run out for more. So, I decided to quit right then and I did! The withdrawal hit about 7 hours later. I called a quit helpline. The counselor told me to go get patches. I did, but on the way home I bummed a cig from a friend. That was the last one I smoked. I'll Never smoke a gain. Because I'm not trying to quit, I DID quit! And you know what? I'm really proud of myself. Dear Julie, That is great advice! I'm going to thank her for reminding me every day why I quit! She'll quit when she no longer enjoys it, just like I did. I can't control her any more than she has ever been able to control me. Now I know how she felt through much of my adolescence! Congratulations on five weeks! I only have three and I can't wait until it's a year! Yeah for all of us! I'm mad! I quit smoking 23 days ago. My mom quit right after me because of her repeated bouts of pneumonia and bronchitis. I went over there and she's smoking again! She's tried to quit more times than I can count. I think the key word here is trying. When I quit I said that to someone and then I corrected myself, because I'm not trying to quit... I just quit. Well, I blew up at her and made her promise to go get patches tomorrow. I know yelling at her wasn't productive, but I was pissed. Any advice on how to handle the situation better? SherryS, Monica is right. This is your quit. About 7 weeks ago, my mother said that she had gone to the doctor and gotten Chantix and that she was going to quit smoking. I told her how great that was and that I would also try to get to the doctor. I even recruited my sister. We both had to run to the doctor so that we could all stop smoking together. You see I was not ready to quit and my sister had tried several times. However, since my mother is heavy smoker and has been for about 50 something years, we thought we should do this to support her. Well you have probably guessed that she never quit smoking. She stopped taking the medicine a week after the quit date. But you know, I thank her everytime I talk to her. I am proud to say that my sister and I are going on 5 weeks as non-smokers. It was Mom's idea, but our quit. I did tell her that we know that she will decide to quit soon and we will be there for her. She tells us how proud she is that we have quit. It is our turn to set the example and then be there for our parents. Good luck, so strong and be proud of your quit. Hi Sherry, Three weeks is a wonderful accomplishment. That means you made it through h-ll week and heck week. We will be at a year before we know it. You made me smile with the comment about controlling you as a child. I guess if any of our parents had of been able to control us we would never have started smoking. :) One day we will see our mother here. Of course my would first have to quit, then get a computer, next learned to turn on the computer on and on and on. Okay, then we might see your mother here. I will just have to relay messages to mine. :) Keep a positive attitude, laugh a lot and keep us posted. You must feel so disappointed in your mom starting back again.. but hon, it's her decision. She needs to want to quit MORE than she wants to smoke. You have to concentrate on your own quit.. which by the way is going wonderfully! Hon, look at how far you have come -- 23 days quit! WOW! Excellent! Sweetie, I can totally understand how upset you are with her, but if she's not ready for whatever reason that is her own decision. Stay strong with your quit.. You should embrace and celebrate your own quit and let other's decide their own future. I know that's a hard pill to swallow, but I've been there and done that and you cannot control other's actions, only your own! ((((((((((hugs))))))))) Monica58 My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/12/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 37 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 753 Amount Saved: $333 Life Gained: Days: 4 Hrs: 5 Mins: 43 Seconds: 34

Sherry, You've gotten some great advice from your fellow quitters. Just as they've said, it is her quit and she is the only that can make it go the distance. If she really does want to quit, why don't you print off our workbook for her. It may be that she does want to quit but doesn't know how to handle cravings. Repetition here SherryS but it is so true you look after your quit and your Mum will follow you, ONLY when she is ready. You cannot make her quit but you CAN make yourself! Good Luck and Congratulations on 24 smokefree days!
