Avalleymom! Congratulations and best of luck on your new adventure. I've spend a little over 8 months in Brussels over the past three years and I absolutely loved it! I'm really glad to hear for your sake that the smoking laws have changed. It was REALLY smokey when I was there and it did seem to me that absolutely everyone smoked. I would go to interviews and stink really badly - of course I smoked too so I didnt really notice. Its a lovely city with fantastic shopping and nightlife. I found the people to be really friendly. Hi Susan, here's some information about Belgium: 28 % of the Belgium citizens older than 18 smokes. 2/3 of those persons tried to quit smoking more than once but didn't succeed. Most public places are smokefree by law but from januari 1 2007 it is no longer aproved to smoke in cafe's and restaurants, although some of these places have rooms where smokers can go to. So in general it can be said that Belgium is mostly smokefree in public places. A couple of years ago it seemed that everyone was smoking but that has changed a lot for The Netherlands and Belgium. I hope you can do something with this information. If you need to know more I will gladly help you. Looking for some info - does anyone out there know what the smoking status is in Belgium. We are moving there this summer and I can't seem to find any info/stats on smoking there. Is public smoking banned? What percent of the country is smoke free? Anyone know?? It is very strict here in Nova Scotia and I am hoping it is the same over there.
