Day 5 is horrible

Jess....in my past attempts, it helped when I got a craving to just wait 3-5 minutes and the craving should pass. I know all to well the stress of anxiety and moodiness can make us reach for a cig...but remember...the cig's chemicals actually make you more anxious and doesn't calm you....and the damage to our bodies isn't worth the fix.....you can do it!!!!! I'm day one....you are already at day 5......take it one hour at a time. Jess.. day 35 is crapy also, but I tell you what.. I am so proud. If someone had told me 35 days ago I would have gone this long after smoking for 31 years I'd of told them they were nuts!! :) Have you ever heard the expression, it takes 21 days to make or break a habit..?? Well in all sincerity at 21 days you have lost the urge to go outside to have those smokes. Or whatever you were doing to want to go to to have them. Believe me... I'm a wussy all the way around. If I can do this you can. Keep it up. It really does get easier.. SOrry you're having a bad day of it. It does get better. What you are feeling the nicodemon would like you to believe you will feel forever so you think you can't bear it. IT IS A LIE. Ride out the crave. Shut the door in the demon's face and don't think about smoking as best you can. Also, be careful not to glamorize anything about smoking. It kills and stinks and there is a reason you came to this site and decided to quit. Also see what happens if you just try to "choose" to be in a good mood. Try to objectively look at your thoughts. Are you feeling like a victim? See what happens if you change it around and think "I am in control and I am happy to not be smoking". SOmetimes this works for me. Hi Jess, I know that it's hard, but try to think of it this way: If you change your attitude toward all this, you can make it easier on yourself. I know lack of sleep is tough, but once you get over this hill, it's going to get easier. Each time you get over a point of contention, you get stronger and the addiction gets weaker. You can not expect this to be easy or every single smoker would quit and the world would be smoke free (wow, wouldnt that be wonderful). So hunker down, yank out all your coping mecanisims; hard candies, water, distraction techniques, positive self talk, and posting and reading here. If you remember just 5 short days ago when you were smoking, all you wanted to do was quit. So remember that, hand it over to your higher power if you believe in that, take a deep breath, put one foot in front of the other and keep on kickin ash! Denise My Milage: My Quit Date: 10/16/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 22 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 680 Amount Saved: $165 Life Gained: Days: 2 Hrs: 15 Mins: 30 Seconds: 55
