That is a good book to have. It tells real stories and gives a great explanation of exactly what is going on in your head. It is not really a self-help book but it sure helps to understand what is going on, and this book will give you insight into your condition. Keep it up and dont buckle under. Mike

I know how you feel. I also live alone and when you're in a state of anxiety you always think the worst. But remember, it's only our minds playing tricks on us. I know how hard it must be dealing with the public when you are feeling like this. Fortunately, I work in an office where I can escape to my "safe place" when I am in panic. You might want to increase your Xanax to .5 mgs three times a day instead. The larger dose will calm you down a little more and should not make you feel drowsy because your body is accustomed to taking it. There is a great book that you should read. It's called "The Anxiety Disease". Besides focusing on the symptoms of panic, it also tells a story of a young, single girl's experience of suffering through panic attacks and her fear of taking medication. I first read this book about ten years ago, and I still refer back to it whenever I have a hard time getting my anxiety under control. Even though it doesn't list many of the new medications on the market, I highly recommend it to anyone who suffers with panic disorder.

Phoebe1, I have had severe panic attacks everyday since I started taking the Effexor XR. I am shakey and dizzy. I am trying to work, but find it to hard. I'm a hairdresser, so it's not good for my clients to be like that. I have been taking .25 Xanax 4 x's a day. I have had a hard time sleeping at night, cause I live alone and I keep thinking something might happen to me and no one will be there. It's hard going through something like this alone...

Well you made it through 5 days already. You should congratulate yourself. What kind of side effects are you experiencing? Are they physical or emotional? I guess the physical ones are much easier to overcome. Are you taking anything else, such as Xanax? If not, you should try taking them together. It will relax you a little and you won't be so frightened. You should also try to keep yourself busy, it will keep your mind off how you're feeling. As far as the medication kicking in, it is a slow process, but the day will come when you say to yourself "Hey, I did not wake up crying today". So, keep taking the !@# pill, relief will come. Best of luck to you and keep us posted on your progress.

I am on my 5th day of Effexor XR. I am hanging in there. I am going through a period where I'm afraid to be alone, due to being on a med. it scares me when side effects happen and there's no one here with me. I don't know when or if I will experience good feelings when I take this? At this point I have NEVER felt this bad in the 11 years of my anxiety. It's tough to keep taking something that is making me feel awful, or making my mind think I feel awful?!?! So far every morning I cry and just take the **** pill anyway.... Ugg
