Whackydog, I will tell you that my very first posts on this site...nearly 2 weeks after I quit...were mostly about my frustration that no one was talking about the chemical/emotional symptoms that showed up after I was through the physical stuff. I felt so blindsided by that. What I heard over and over was ... in 3 to 5 days the nicotine was gone. Never did I read on this or any other site about the other withdrawal symptoms. Prior to my quit, I had not really experienced the mania or the the moodswings that hit me after I quit. I was always a positive, forward-looking person. Suddenly I changed into something neither I nor anyone else recognized. There are folks who don't experience this and that's just wonderful. But the absolute truth is that everyone's quit is different and no one has the right to put anyone down for what they are experiencing. And no one ever needs to apologize to anyone for what they feel or what they are going through. Penitent is absolutely right. You are giving your quit away to the "child" part of you...the part that whines and holds its breath when it doesn't get its way. I remember early in my quit realizing that the nastiness I directed at my husband was because he "got to smoke" and I didn't. That's when I had a complete turnaround...hey, wait a minute... I WANT THIS QUIT! That and some talking therapy with a substance abuse counselor helped me get my head straight. Rewards? You can do this quit however you need to. There were times I rewarded myself for just getting through an hour. There are no rules, there is no right or wrong, EXCEPT... DON'T SMOKE! Well, it isn't easy for you right now and you do have plenty of issues which are distracting your focus. Sweep them ALL off the worktop, including hubby, and concentrate on YOU and YOUR quit and clearly determine within yourself whether you really want to quit or not. If you want to smoke, smoke and come back someday when you are ready. If you really want to quit, you must change your mindset and become completely selfish until you are comfortable in your quit. This is one game you must play to win; it's your life that is on the line here, no-one else's, including hubby. You first, the rest nowhere - for now. Good Luck, we are all here to help. Wacky, You have received some great advice, so take what you need and keep it close. You have to prepare for these moments and craves. Yes, you can reward yourself often, but try using rewards as a goal to reach. Have you made a list of coping mechanisms? Also make a list of hobbies, chores and activities that you want or have to do. This will keep you occupied and distracted. This is your quit, so feel proud that you are doing something to better yourself.
