I was there 2 weeks ago lasted a couple of days. I have a very strong support group who lifted my spirits and helped me through. It was awful, i cried so much they declared my bedroom a flood zone, it was crazy - i didnt know what exactly what it was i was crying or depressed about i was just..... yuk. Hang on tight, it does get better. I, too, am a repeat offender. Set that new quit date and stick with it. In the meantime, don't let yourself smoke too much. Right before this last time, I did allow myself to chain-smoke from 10 pm- midnight. I then burned the rest of the pack. Felt AWFUL the next am when i got up. My mouth tasted like a S&%# sandwhich had been eaten---YUCK! That gave me the incentive to stick with it. Plus, as soon as I slipped, it became harder to breathe and I again began wheezing. Check back in with us and don't wait too long before that next quit date......{{{hugs}}}

Did you work through the Quit Program Tools on the left of your screen? It has plenty of 'prepare to quit' ideas. Freddie, If you're having trouble dealing with depression, one of our sister sites may be helpful to you. www.depressioncenter.net Keep in mind many quitters get the blues during their quit. Keep up the great progress! Jan, How is your busy schedule affecting your quit? What strategies are you employing to stay quit? Have you worked through the program? If you've had a slip, learn from it and keep going. What led to it? Why didn't you employ your coping mechanisms? Danielle ________________________ The SSC Support Team

I quit on 21 Jan, and weeks later on 15 Feb, I just started bawling over something really insignificant. But, it gets better, hang in there! Depression during a quit is normal, Jan58. When you smoked, your body and brain had a constant supply of nicotine which acts as a stimulant and anti-depressant. Now it's gone. It will take a while for your body to adjust. Be patient and do what you can to distract yourself. It will pass. Keep up the good quit. :) Shevie My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/23/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 466 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 9,321 Amount Saved: $1770.8 Life Gained: Days: 86 Hrs: 21 Mins: 18 Seconds: 36

Good on you, Jan! It is rough and I remember spending many "blue" days during the first month. It will get better though and the benefits that come will FAR outweigh the bad days. Also, with your busy schedule it may be a good time to quit. Sounds weird I know. But you'll have so much to do that hopefully it will distract you and also you'll find you have a lot of time on your hands from not smoking. Those five minutes here and there really add up. Once you make it through this hectic week it will also be a powerful reinforcement to prove you can do it. You aren't alone either - we are here to lean on. Do you have some rewards in place? That will help with the 'blues' and also with the stress of a busy schedule.
