hey, i was on prozac for depression when i started having panic attacks, then my dr told me that prozac can put an emphasis on anxiety. i was taken off it in nov. of 2002, but i continue to have these horrible miserable good for nothing attacks. on the other hand, my depression is stabilized and i'm med free!

Hey Beth. Your initial reaction to Paxil seems to have been a lot worse than mine. I guess you did what was best for your particular situation.

Hi Agoraphobe, Thanks for writing about your experience. I guess you are stronger than I because the anxiety became so intense and I couldnt get out of bed because of it, so I stopped taking it about 3 days ago. I had been on it for about 14 days, and then the really bad symptoms stepped in- dealt with them for about a week and was done with it. I am back to just on Xanax and have been able to drive again, get out of the house, work and will be back to the Therepist tomorrow (a 2 hour drive from my house which last week there is no way I could have done) I dont know if those symptoms would have gone away or lessened, but they were SO intrusive, I could no longer give it a shot. I hope you have a good day :) Beth

At first, I also felt worse after taking an SSRI (Paxil)--indeed, I didn't develop agoraphobia until after taking the drug. However, I soon felt better. I've now been on Paxil for about 3.5 years. It's the only thing that worked for me--on a high enough dosage (about 60 mg/day) I become INCAPABLE of having a panic attack.(Unfortunately, I'm now dependent on the drug and I'm wondering if I'll ever be able to get off it without having a relapse--but that's a different story)

hi beth im also rweady to give up on ssri's. i was on zoloft until i had bad side affects such as tremor and indegestion. itried paxil and had a nightmare time with it. had the worst panic attack in my life. right now im waiting for my dr. to call me to let me know where to go from here. i guess you and i are in the same boat. glad you are doing better. this disorder is a terrible one and i can really relate to anyone who has this problem. hang in there. maybe someday they will get a miracle drug for all of us.

Hello all- I posted the other day about my increased anxiety that was out of control and after doing research about it (I was on Prozac and had already tried Celexa and Zoloft) I stopped taking it. The increased anxiety came 14 days into treatment on the drug, and they had me in bed for over a week. I guess some people can handle SSRI's and some cant- My level of anxiety has been almost cut in half and for the first time in almost 2 weeks, I was able to work a full day. I did have an attack at 5:30pm, but went to bed and chilled out for a while and it subsided enough for me to make dinner for the kids and eat a bit. I am on Xanax still and I am still having symptoms of the anxiety, but I think I will stay away from the SSRI family of medications for good. I guess some people just cant use the SSRI's to increase the seratonin...??? Has anyone else had an experience like mine?
