SSRI's and brain damage

Good Morning :), In all honesty, I have not been able to find a study that truly shows that SSRI's causes brain damage. I will continue to research this topic for you and will let you know ASAP if I find any medical based research. In the meantime, let your doctor know how you feel with regards to your findings. He/she should be open to any questions or concerns you may have. Thanks for the interesting post. Take care and we hope to hear from you again soon :). Melanie

I just joined the group, but have been suffering from a severe panic disorder and agoraphobia for about 3.5 years. Prior to developing agoraphobia, I would have panic attacks only in certain specific situations, e.g. in closed spaces, during exams, etc. My panic attacks gradually became more sporadic and frequent until I found myself simply too frightened to leave my bed. It was at this point that I knew I needed medication--my doctor prescribed Paxil. Unfortunately, I seem to be getting used to the drug and now need to take almost 60mg a day to have the courage to leave my home. However, after reading Prozac Backlash, a book by Dr. Joseph Glenmullen, I'm concerned that Paxil, Zoloft, Prozac and any other Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor may cause brain damage. Unfortunately, Glenmullen is one of the few researchers who seems to make any mention of this most serious side effect. Has anyone else heard anything about SSRI's and brain damage?
