Thank you all for your support!! It's sure not easy.. and there are moments difficult.. but you know something? tonight i went for a drink with some friends...none of them smokes!! It only crossed my mind for a while.. but i didn't think to go and buy cigarettes even if it was so easy to get up-the store was 10steps away. Being with people who don't smoke is so much easier!! But the feeling that you don't smell like an ashtray is much better! thank you all... it's 23.30 and i won't have internet at work for a few days...      My Milage: My Quit Date: 6/19/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 7 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 77 Amount Saved: 19.6 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 13 Mins: 7 Seconds: 54

i smelled the sea...the iodine of the sea... the country... I swam better..didn't got tired..enjoyed the sun..didn't destroy my mouth with the taste of a cig... it was not so easy,i must say... but most of my friends are non smokers... i had my drinks,my coffee but i stayed smoke free. And it's nice to hear from people around you-smokers and non smokers-that you are doing a great job. However,i don't know if it's because i don't smoke..i feel a little sad..not thinking that i want to smoke and i don't... but these last 2-3 days were really hard for me (psycologically)!! :confuse: New week started! Are we all here? :p My Milage: My Quit Date: 6/19/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 7 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 71 Amount Saved: 19.6 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 12 Mins: 14 Seconds: 2

Kate, Congratulations on making it through your first weekend smoke free!!!! Way to go! You should reward yourself well for your 1 week accomplishment AND for socializing with friends and not smoking! As for being sad, that's a natural occurance. I assume that most of your social experiences in the past involved smoking... it's only natural to feel a little sad, perhaps a little nostalgic, because you're doing something for the first time without your "companion." This feeling will pass after a while... everytime you do something new that you haven't done smoke free before, you will break a little bit more of the connection between that activity and smoking to the point where it doesn't exist anymore and you can do that activity without feeling sad at all. Have you ever had an old boyfriend that you were really in love with, but then for some reason, the two of you broke up? The first time you go to the place that was "your place" or even some place where the two of you had been before, it brings back memories and we get a little nostalgic about it... that doesn't mean that we necessarily want to go back and be with that person... especially if that person was as abusive as cigarettes are to us... it's just a memory association and it's completely normal. But, that feeling passes each time you do that thing, or go to that place, without the old, abusive companion. Take heart Kate that this feeling will subside and you will feel the freedom that quitting offers. Reward yourself for 1 awesome week of freedom! That should help you feel better too! Crave the Quit! Wow Kate, This is awesome that you went and socialized so soon into your quit. And you stayed smoke free. See, life does exist without nicotine! I was a hermit for a while when I first quit. I just didn't feel like going any where or dealing with any people. And that was okay. Depression can be part of the after effects of quitting. If you are feeling a little sad, just feel it. We numbed out emotions with nicotine for so long that our emotions seem more intense. I know that we will level out in the future. Congratulations on 7 days smoke free! That is a great accomplishment. Kate, You made it through the first week and that is commendable. You will have these feelings and they will pass. You made the right choice! Keep Strong, Josie ______________________ The SSC Support Team.
