Hi Andrew50, Welcome to the SSC! Sorry I didn't see this earlier - I'm in Oz too but not suffering much anymore. It really does start to get a lot easier the further you are into the process and everyone is different. Are you using any NRT? That helps me. Check out the tools in your glovebox - they are great. I am so glad that I found this site. The support here is one of the key things that has kept me going, I swear. Cheers alison :) Kick the Herb to the Kerb My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/16/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 36 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,089 Amount Saved: $450 Life Gained: Days: 5 Hrs: 3 Mins: 33 Seconds: 32

Andrew, Don't get discouraged, get up and try again. Make sure you learn from this experience! How are you going to prevent it next time? You'll also need to revise your quit plan and evaluate it's overall effectiveness and continue to tailor it to you and your daily life. What kind of reward system do you have planned? Distractions? Keep persevering and check back soon, Danielle ________________________________________ The SSC Support Team

Good advice Chicken Licken, knowledge is empowering! Andrew, You experienced a set back but I'm glad to hear your continuing with your quit. What made you give in? Isolate that, learn from it and make sure you come up with a plan that keeps it from reoccuring. You need to replace smoking with a new habit. You need to set in place a reward system with three components: small one for after each craving, medium for after each day and a larger one for the end of each week. Because the physiologic & psychological effects of these rewards aren't as consuming as nicotine, you'll find as your quit becomes easier, you won't need to reward yourself as often. Keep persevering & check back soon, Danielle _________________________________ The SSC Support Team

Andrew, Listen to Danielle, I am using all the times I failed as learning experiences. Learning from failure makes a person so much stronger. I am still new to this Quit, but I am so much, more stronger and more resoved than I was in my prior quits. Quitting takes time and patience. You can so do this! Good Luck with the Doc! :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 6/12/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 10 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 413 Amount Saved: $65 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 22 Mins: 24 Seconds: 22

Andrew, Pretty new myself to this Quit. At the office, I use to go outside and smoke when the Fax Machine or any Machine frustated me, even the coffee Machine. (I don't even drink coffee :p) Any excuse to quit what I was doing for a smoke would do. I have found, for me, sucking on a lollipop or chewing gum at the times, I use to go outside works miracles. I now I am new, but what I tell you is true, Andrew ;) My Milage: My Quit Date: 6/12/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 7 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 310 Amount Saved: $45.5 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 16 Mins: 54 Seconds: 45

Andrew, just take it a little bit at a time, I always say quit one day at a time, or if you need to right now, 1 hour at a time. Get some coping mechanisms in place for your "going crazy moments" Keep doing the breathing, slowly concentrate on breathing in slowly and exhnaling slowly. It truly does help. You're doing really well, just stay with it.
