Hi pinktexas - Sleep can be tough to get when we Quit at first (or later in our Quits)... I always mention melatonin as I found amazing relief in the natural remedy (as many of my clients have)... AND make sure to read ALL labels on all natural remedies, as each of us is different... Meditation and any kind of exercise also helps bring us "down" to a quieter, calmer place for sleep... Swimming does wonders for me as does power walking...try moving around, friend - especially late in the evening... I SO remember that time of being horribly foggy and tired but couldn't sleep. Miserable isn't it? I do have a suggestion but it's not probably one you want to hear :eg: Try some exercise. Even if it's just simple walking. And even if you already excercise, do a little more for a little while. While you've been feeling less energetic with your quit, your activity has probably slowed and you're not expending your normal amount of energy. Exercise releases hormones that literally lift your spirits, helps detox your body and makes you feel more energetic and alert. You'll feel more tired at bedtime. Try to stop all physical activity 3 hours before bedtime. Try a warm bath within a half hour of sleeping (when you take a warm bath, your body tries to cool itself). Also, a very small snack of carbohydrates can help you sleep if eaten an hour before bed time. Pamper yourself...set yourself up for a good night's sleep. Lastly, just know that it doesn't last forever. I actually sleep better now than I have in years. I think it's because my breathing has improved. G'luck..and congratulations on completing hell week! Thank you, thank you for the words of wisdom. I spoke with my doctor today and he advised that I try some over the counter sleep aids for a few days. He explained to me that my symptoms are a normal adjustment to stopping smoking. My problem is not that I am waking up in the middle of the night it is that I can't get to sleep at all. So I am going to try the OTC sleep aid for a few nights, we will see how that works...here's to hoping that this could be my answer!!! Well today was the my one week milestone of being smoke free. I am feeling great, however...I am having trouble sleeping at night. It seems like I can't get comfortable...I am always hot, and I absolutley have not slept in a week, therefore I have been sooooo tired all week. I have been so lazy, almost seems like I have been a bit depressed, and not got any work done. I can't keep doing this. Any advice on how to get some much needed rest, or how long until my body will go back to normal sleep patterns. I am so confused, but am hoping to find some wisdom from some of the veterans around here!!! Thanks in advance for the advice. Well I actually slept pretty well last night using the OTC sleep aid. So I am going to do that for the rest of this week...just for the sake of getting caught up on some much needed rest.
