valium and alcohol

I agree with Anne-Marie. You're playing a dangerous game....you must know that, as prescription medications most often come with very clear warnings regarding alcohol. Anxiety and depression are very powerful disorders - they make you feel "uncomfortable in your skin"... I totally understand and relate to what you're describing - I too used to drink BEFORE going out, just to get comfortable enough to go out...I'm now a recovering alcoholic..meaning, I no longer drink and am in a 12 step recovery program.... I'm not suggesting you're an alcoholic or drug addict, I'm only stating, I can relate to feeling uncomfortable and taking something to ease that discomfort - (or hoping it will ease the discomfort) however, you already realize it is not only not working, it is not safe. Hopefully, by posting what you did, you've already started the wheels of motion to look at your behavior with your meds & alcohol - as Anne-Marie suggested, you ought to speak to your doc about your meds - and if you're feeling dependant on a substance to make you feel comfortable - maybe, between your doctor and support groups - similar to this one, you can find other coping skills....I know it's much easier said than done, but there's always a "starting" point, maybe this is yours.... with care & compassion, SCBB

Hi, Impreza. Alcohol and bezodiazpines are a dangerous and bad combination. You need to find another way to cope. Talk to your doctor about it. Don't continue in this way. -- Anne-Marie, Site Administrator

I always get so anxious before I go out and while I'm at nightspots therefore, I take a lot of valium and drink alcohol. In a couple of hours I feel and look shocking. I don't know what I can do about this problem and I'm wondering if somebody could please make some suggestions
