Had a victory today! My son's school recently confiscated his asthma puffer (first time this has happened), because they instituted a policy that the student should not be keeping their meds on them for fear of abuse by other students (granted it might happen), but notwithstanding their locally drawn up form for administering the meds by a staff person (non-medical, by the way) my laywers that I work for laughed at the pseudo legality of it all. They are simply not allowed to confiscate bona fide prescribed drugs from a child. Anyhow to make this long story short, I was so I R A T E when I discover that a secretary had taken the Ventolin inhaler out of my child's school bag (which had been in there since March of last year) I stormed to the school in a taxi (hubby had car) with my son and gave them a piece of my mind. I'll back myself up with a letter from doctor and lawyer at law firm for which I work if necessary. I was finally able to stand up for myself and my principles... case of BIG FISH (secretary) IN SMALL POND. Sometimes the adrenaline helps when one really needs to get angry and act on it! My lawyer (who is also a licensed MD by the way), says, notwithstanding their ridiculous form, what they are doing is dangerous and certainly not legal by any means. Then she added, "What school does he go to anyway." Never had the problems I am having in Québec -- oh, how lonesome and nostalgic I get at times!! Wish hubby could get a transfer and we could get the H... out of here!!!
We are going to arrange for my son to carry puffer in a waist pouch at all times (per his teacher's own instructions. She is also asthmatic). Boo to secretaries who overstep their authority... get a life!
