Northbrook (IL) Votes Unanimously for Clean Indoor Air
Northbrook (Illinois) is the latest community in Illinois to go smokefree. The Village Board voted unanimously Tuesday night for an ordinance that clears the air in almost all workplaces.
"It's very comprehensive," Village President Gene Marks said of the law, which will go into effect Jan. 1. "We're going to enjoy our clean air." Under the ordinance, smoking will be eliminated in all restaurants, bars and offices, as well as some outdoor locations, including school property.
Buffalo Grove, Deerfield, Evanston, Highland Park, Libertyville, Lincolnshire, Skokie, Vernon Hills and Wilmette, Lake Forest, and Lindenhurst all have passed similar ordinances.
"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful citizens can change the
world. Indeed, it's the only thing that ever has." Margaret Mead
