Oh so sorry, UKmick. YOu are doing nothing wrong. There was no message from Abdabz, but rather it was I testing his login and ability to reply to a post. In removing it, I emporarily forgot about the email feature that lets you know someone has replied your post. -- Anne-Marie, Site Administrator

Hi UKMick :) I just wanted to wave and let you know your not alone. This group is really helping me, but I dont know if I could have done it without the help of the medications my doctor has prescribed me. I would really recommend that if you have access to a doctor you talk to him about what is going on... although I know there are plenty of people here who manage without the meds. Either way, good luck.

Hello everyone for somtime now i have been having problems sleeping, and some of the symtoms of panic. I was not aware that they were symtoms of panic untill a freind suggested i look at this site. I ahve just spent the last hour or so reading messges and alot of the things discused seem very familiar eg the wierd adreanline rush and waking with a jerk and waking from dreams weary and others spoke of sleep phobia ect, somtimes my body is so tired, but my mind will just not stop racing. the last good nights sleep i had was days ago when i had to much to drink. I used to sleep soundly the only problem was waking up in the morning. these days i realy sleep for more than 4-5 hours. Im sad to say there doesnt seem to be the same recognition or sympathy in this country as there does over there, it does help to know that im not the only one going through this and i have taken on boaed some of your ideas for trying to break this cycle. i am determined to get my life back and i think this group may be able to help. hopfully i can help others here to. this msg is realy just to introduce myself i will be watching and trying to contribute anything i think may help. thats all for now take care Mick

To Weary: I can lay awake in a daze for hours. There is one thing that helps because I know there is too much junk in my brain. I have a relaxtion tape. I may play it 2X, but I can at least doze. It says, "You are in a field, etc." It doesn't matter what it says, I listen to the droning voice. It you listen to one thing you can't be thinking something else. I don't suggest the radio because you may pay too much attention to the actual discussion. Get someting soothing and boring. There are also tapes of hemasync music which is supposed to be relaxing because it is designed to go from ear to ear, side to side. TV helps a lot of people. I know a lot of people lay on top of the bed or on the couch if they have begun to associate their bed with anxiety. Maybe a warm bath before bed, read something boring and not disturbing? But, I have had the most success with tapes. Good luck.

Hi Sasha, common with affective disorders like depression & panic disorder are sleep difficulties. In panic disorder it is very common to have partial panic symptoms in one's sleep (ex. being jerked awake) particularly as one transitions from active to inactive states, ex. drifting off. Some people can develop a sleep phobia because of it which will only worsen panic & depression. Both depression & panic/anxiety disorders affect neurotransmitters that also affect your autonomic nervous system (sympathetic & parasympathetic) which if out of balance can cause these symptoms and create a vicious cycle. The cycle can be broken by a CBT program as offered at this site &/or meds under a doctor's guidance. You say you have a "sister who had this when she was my age, and it was drug related also" but you said your not on meds? Do you mean street drugs? Ecstasy use & other drugs have been associated with both depression & panic. It's important to tell your doctor about any drugs you may be taking & odds are you can overcome this with some help. Don't try to do it all by yourself, let us know how you are...

At the risk of humiliating myself, its been my experience that almost all men twitch in their sleep, sometimes rather violently. (Its not the way it sounds, honest...) If you are waking with a start, perhaps you are having breathing problems? Have you ever heard of sleep apnea? It could also be anxiety, but related to your dreams or something else. How do you feel when you're awake? Thats probably the best indication of how you really feel. Beth

I don't think it is that, unfortunately. I carefully watch my caffeine intake to a single cup of coffee in the morning. No Cokes or anything like that. No, this is something different. Often when I wake up, it's almost a lurch and often I am trying to catch my breath. Thanks...I was just wondering if it had a name.
