....car trip without a cigarette!!! :) My daughter asked me to drop her off at the mall so she could go school shopping with her friends and my first thought was "No way!! It's too soon!" She must have seen the scared look in my eyes because she says "Come on mom you can do this. Let's get you some gum and some ice tea and if you go nuts I'll drive us home" ...and becuase she has her learners permit and a sence of humor she followed that statement up with... "unless you think my driving will make you want to smoke more" Well how could I say no to that offer? It took me a good 30 minutes to get out the door I kept looking around thinking I had forgot something "got the kids...1,2,3...check" "got my sunglasses...on my head...check" "got my keys...in my hand...check" I realized I was still looking for my cigareets and the panic hit me hard, but I grabbed a pack of gum and didnt' look back" That was a 45min drive and I made it without a cigarette. I took a wrong turn at one point and the conversation went like this: ME: Where am I? Did I make a wrong turn somewhere? NIKKI (15yo): Yeah make a u-turn up here. ME: It must be the extra oxygen in my brain since I quit smoking JENNY (7yo): You have air in your brains mommy? good job Cranking my car was the hardest!!! The first two week after quiting, I would always get in with a glass of water and gum... Driving home from work i would call someone on my cell I can not drive, talk and smoke at the same time.. Children are another good check and balance.. (I have 3)They can and have been a sorce of encouragement!! My 7 year old over heard me telling a friend that I had not smoked in so many days... He said" Way to go MOM, I am so proud of you"!!!! Good luck... You are doing GREAT!!!
