Im sorry you had a tough time of it but i am so glad you didnt pick up a sickarette. I know you know that smoking would not have made the situation any better and i know that when the craving comes it hits like a ton of bricks and you are left there wondering who threw them. I dont miss the constant worry that the next sickarette was the one that was going to be "the" one that made me sick. I dont miss the sore chest, the cough, the sinus headaches, the sore throats, the way people looked down on me, the way i looked down on me, i dont miss a darn thing. Remember all the reasons why you quit. I hope your day gets better Tulaullah. Big hugs PrincessC :) x My Milage: My Quit Date: 7/11/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 40 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 814 Amount Saved: $408 Life Gained: Days: 3 Hrs: 6 Mins: 38 Seconds: 41

tallulahmay ,congratulations on choosing not to smoke, that's what quitting is, choosing not to smoke, to stay quit, you have to make that choice everyday. Do not romance the thought of smoking, smoking is a vile habit and addiction, what is it to like about smoking? The smell, the coughing, the need to have one and then another, being a slave I don't think so. You are quite far along in your quit so keep up the good fight do it one day at a time :)Marie My Milage: My Quit Date: 6/13/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 68 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,034 Amount Saved: $272 Life Gained: Days: 9 Hrs: 2 Mins: 20 Seconds: 3

Talullahmay, When you were a smoker, if something stressed you out what did you go running to in order to cope? If your answer is a cigarette, there are a few things you should know. Smoking is an avoidance/escape behavior. Smoking also releases your "feel good chemicals" that would cause your stress levels to come down by counteracting your feelings of stress. Now that you're a non smoker what do you have to run to that creates the same effect? Developping new coping mechanisms is a difficult challenge that all quitters must face. Some members have found it helpful to keep a journal, others meditate, do yoga or deep breathing. Some take a long bath to think things through, others walk away and come back once they feel they can deal with the problem at hand. You can do this! Keep fighting those cravings and reward yourself for doing so. Deal with the problem and reward yourself for handling the situation well. Keep trying to find outlets for your feelings. Keep persevering, Danielle __________________________ The SSC Support Team

i've had terrrible cravings today - all afternoon. i keep repeating in my mind 'i choose not to smoke, i respect myself' taking deep breaths. it helped a bit. i seriously thought of buying a packet of cigarettes but then i thought no - why throw 33 days of being smoke free down the pan - im worth more than that. i know i've made the right choice for me but part of me does feel pissed off for making the right choice. when my mind tells me 'i miss cigarettes, i liked smoking sooooo much' i just have to ask myself why i liked smoking so much. the answer - to fix my feelings weather they were feelings of saddness, happiness, anger - well any feelings at all. if i pick up a cigarette it fixes my feelings but the problem will remain an i will not face it. i felt like somking today because i was worried about my boyfriends health and after a couple of days together he was going home. i wanted to fix my feelings of sadness, anxiety, worry. all uncomfortable feelings. today i have looked those feeling in the eye and not picked up. thank God for another smoke free day. ann My Milage: My Quit Date: 7/18/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 33 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 471 Amount Saved: 141.9 Life Gained: Days: 2 Hrs: 14 Mins: 16 Seconds: 39

Ann, you are doing absolutely the right thing, by facing those junkie thoughts square in the face rather than let them control you. You deserve a big reward for 33 days...you sure don't want to throw them away. I agree with Danielle...smoking doesn't fix those feelings. It just allows you to not deal with them. But ultimately they are still there gnawing away at you. Better to face them and deal with them!
