Thanks very much. I seem to be doing fine with the lozengers. My moms doc gave her inhaler, patches, gum!!! She picked them up last night. I was shocked that he did this?? I told her not to take any of them till we talk to him. Surly he just has lost his mind. Hi Correen, in the patches instruction booklets (the ones that I use it says patches only) but I take it off at night and it takes 30 minutes to kick in when I put it back in the am and the pharmacist told me I could chew half a gum to fill in that 30 minutes. I haven't tried it because it defeats the purpose , i asked about this during my first week (hell week) and then I decided against it. So it's up to you if you feel you might relapse I guess it's better to chew the gum. Anyway good luck and you will get through this :)Marie My Milage: My Quit Date: 6/13/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 30 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 464 Amount Saved: $120 Life Gained: Days: 4 Hrs: 2 Mins: 0 Seconds: 39

Correen, Please consult your MD concerning this matter. He/she is the best authority to give you advice as he/she is able to take into account your medical history. Danielle _________________________ The SSC Support Team

I used the patch and lozenges, but I dropped a strength a week with the patches and stopped them ater 4 weeks. I think it depends how heavy a smoker you were because nicotine products are only approx a third of the strength of a cigarette. Rusty is probably right though, I don't think you are supposed to but it worked for me! I don't think so, Correen. That would probably result in overdosing on nicotine. Remember the idea is to ease your withdrawals, not to obliterate yourself! Read the packages carefully, talk to your doctor or pharmacist, research them on line. As with any drug, you'll want to be very careful. Correen, lots of docs don't understand quitting smoking, anymore than non-smokers do. It isn't something they are trained for in medical school, and they only really know about it if they take the time to educate themselves. Of course, there are some who are quite supportive and knowledgeable, but my experience has been the opposite. As with many health issues, sometimes you can get more information doing web searches and talking to folks who experience the same. My doctor admitted that he didn't know how to direct me other than buy the aids. But I told him about this site, and he now at least gives the address to his patients. I think you are right to question him. It might put him on the spot a little and encourage him to do a little research.
