I stopped completely on Monday night, after posting here, that i was thinking of quitting and needed some support. I hadnt planned to stop there and then, but just felt guilty when so many people responded - so quit there and then without really thinking about it (i certainly hadnt thought all day I am going to quit tonight) Neither had I planned for that to be my last packet of cigarettes, maybe it helped that i hadnt so i couldnt use anymore excuses. So yes it can be done. But I had quit previously so had prepared many times over, so it wasnt such a shock to my system. There is some fantastic support here. If you post, you will usually get some really good advice from other members, and new members who have quit the same time as you, can be great for identifying how you are feeling right now. This is especially true in the first few weeks/ days. Congratulations on your quit... if you feel like you are going mad POST... we are all here for you!

    Cigarettes Not Smoked

Hi ChainE, Before I quit, the idea of never smoking again was unthinkable. Believe me, I don't think that way anymore. My one bit of advice is this: don't think in terms of 'never smoking again' at the moment, just take one day at a time. Soon, days become weeks, then months. It is not an easy ride at first, but I am now beginning to discover that it is certainly worth it. Every person who smokes deserves to be a non-smoker. If I can do it, you can - stay on this site for support and advice! Mr Ed :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 2/13/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 123 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 3,708 Amount Saved: 922.5 Life Gained: Days: 20 Hrs: 14 Mins: 38 Seconds: 54

Regarding the question "Is it healthy to stop completely?" If you don't stop completely, you haven't stopped. YES it's healthy to stop. It may be a shock to your system. It will probably not be fun. It will probably hurt. Alot at times. It will probably make you want to just keep smoking, but it is way healthier to quit no matter how hard it is. Read up all the great posts that SSC members and moderators have contributed over the years. The encouragement and support as well as understanding is a significant part of the success of so many. I hope it can help you succeed too. It also may take you more than one try. This is my 3rd and it feels like the charm.
