Hi, Rainne.
There will come a time when you realize you've made the transition from quitter to ex-smoker. The difference is you will no longer be taking an active part in your quit. The craves will weaken to thoughts of smoking. Those thoughts will become memories of smoking, and eventually even those memories will fade to nothing.
For me, the process was:
"GAAAAAAA! I want a smoke! And I can't have one!! GAAAAAAAAA!"
"Boy, a smoke would be nice right now. Oh, well. Ain't happening."
"There was a time I'd have been smoking right now."
And finally, around February, the transition:
"When was the last time I thought of smoking? It's been a while."
The only time smoking is on my mind now is pretty much when I'm on this site. Otherwise, it's like I never smoked before.
Everybody progresses at their own rate. Some reach this point in weeks, others still haven't made it after a year. I think a lot of it has to do with how much focus you put on your quit. The more you pay close attention to it, and I mean an obsessive attention to every little nuance, the longer it will take.
Congratulations on 8 smoke-free days, Rainne. Hell week's toast. Time to kick heck week to the gutter. :eg:
