When are we "quit"

for 18 år siden 0 772 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
I try to think like a non smoker. So i always say I am a non smoker. It feels good to say that, because apart from being a child, when obviously I didnt smoke, I never knew what it was to be a non smoker. However, I do trip up, sometimes i clean forget I am a non smoker (like today) I go off into a world of my own, or maybe I wake up in the morning, and clean forget. On those occasions, I am quitting.. Thanks for the answers guys. I was just wondering if everybody defined it differently. I like the idea of being officially quit when I no longer think of smoking. The thoughts get a little less every day, so that's a nice goal to shoot for! <3 My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/30/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 9 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 141 Amount Saved: $31.5 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 14 Mins: 10 Seconds: 53

Maybe this is a weird question. I've been telling everyone that I'm "quitting", as in, progressive tense. Because it is a journey, an ongoing action. How do you guys say it? Is there a difference between "I'm quitting" and "I've quit"? I'd like to have the finality of saying "I quit smoking" instead of just "quitting smoking". But I don't know if 8 days is long enough to make that grammatical leap lol. So, is there a magical moment when you enter the present perfect tense? When you can say "I have quit smoking!!" Maybe I need to stop over-thinking things? :p My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/30/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 8 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 134 Amount Saved: $28 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 13 Mins: 26 Seconds: 38

quitter: That was exactly what I was trying to get to! LoL I just can't get that far with the CRS I have going on :eg: "Quitting" seems to sound like I'm not sure that it's done, or I think I might one day stop quitting, or something. To the world I have quit. I am a non-smoker. To myself ... I know I still have a lot of work to do. But I also know that no matter what it is I have to work through to make this quit a success for life ... I will do it without smoking. You are a non-smoker Rainne ... why not give yourself that positive affirmation. That was a good thread Butterfly swimmer. I can't believe anyone was offended by that thread. But then I am more like Golferman in my outlook on things and I do have a hardline about myself ... but it always comes from love. Dear Rainne, Congratulations on sticking with your quit process thru thick & thin!! I personally just tell people that I've stopped smoking. Period. The quit process is a personal thing that I only discuss with my partner (who is also quitting), a friend who stopped smoking years ago & you guys on this site. BTW my friend that quit years ago says that she truly felt like a non-smoker when she stopped having any sad thoughts about having a cigarette. She says that she still had occassional thoughts but they weren't sad, just habit leftovers. And if you ask her what are the best things she's ever done in her life she says: #1 Having her son James. #2 Quitting cigarettes. take care alison My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/16/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 23 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 716 Amount Saved: $287.5 Life Gained: Days: 3 Hrs: 9 Mins: 13 Seconds: 14

Rainne, What a great question! I agree with your last post. Just a little extra motivation. ;) Danielle _______________________________________ The SSC Support Team

Rainne: When people ask, just say, "I quit Smoking". Nuff said. You are now maintaining your quit but they do not need to know that. It's YOUR quit. Pretty simmple. They will most likely say "Oh That's Great, Congratulations" (if they smoke). If they don't smoke they will say, "Oh, I heard that's REALLY hard". Take the compliment and roll your eyeballs at the rest. No worries. If you're not ready to say you're completely quit, but you're afraid that saying you're "quitting" means you might not make it or something, why not just say "I quit smoking 8 days ago," or "two weeks ago today"? That shows people that you're working at it and need support but it doesn't undercut the fact that you did make a clean break with cigarettes and haven't had one. For me "trying to quit" or "quitting" is a little too weak for what you've done. If you've been slipping and you're still at it, sure, quitting or trying. But if you're still without after all those days, then you've QUIT! Way to go! quitter My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/3/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 97 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,951 Amount Saved: $208.55 Life Gained: Days: 6 Hrs: 10 Mins: 46 Seconds: 41
