My wife deals with COPD and she's had pneumonia about 10 times since we've been married 12 years. The best thing you can do is stay on the antibiotics that the doc prescribes. Drink lots of water, and be prepared to hack up both lungs almost daily. Smoking is the worst thing you can do to get better, because the tar paralyzes the cilia in your lungs. It hurts worse before it gets better. My mom has COPD and here are some things she finds helpful. there is a thing called Vapor-Plug from sudaCare. You plug it in and it puts a menthol scent in the air. Also there is something called Shower soothers (I don't know who makes it) It's tablets you put in the shower to help the steam to clear your lungs. Also just sitting in the bathroom with the shower going full hot helps. I understand how you feel about smoking while your sick. In 30 years I have never been sick enough to make me skip one cig, and my mom is still smoking with COPD. She goes outside so she doesn't blow herself up with the oxygen.

Well i went to the walk in clinic finally and the doctor there said i should be on a long dosage of antibiotics called "AVELOX" and he wants me to be one it for 3 weeks. Dam the cigs. it hurts when i breath and my ribs and in my back, my arms hurt and I just feel week. But guess what i am still faithfull to the smokes= go figure, my quit day is coming up june 1,2006 and you would think with the way i am feeling i would quit now ---no no no. I just keep on puffing. Who sick is that. I almost feel like going to the hospital. telling them i cant breath and myabe they will keep me there for how ever long to get over the smokes ha ha ha-does anyone have any other suggestions to help with the discomfort please please :gasp:

When you quit smoking it is going to free up a lot of time that you use to spend smoking. Plan and prepare now for your quit day. Think of things you would like to do to fill all the added hours you will have in your life. Would you like to plant a garden, take up exercising, refurbishing a piece of furniture, you name it ... ... think of all the things you have wanted to do, but haven't ... do them. When we (my husband & I) smoked ... we were always so tired and felt like we could not get everything done that we needed to get done in a day. We wished days were longer. Now we can take a nap in the middle of the day if we want AND still get everything done in a day. It is wonderful. We exercise, we go out, we went and saw a movie last night and we didn't miss any parts of the movie for a smoke break ... I'm loving my new life! Come on over to the other side of the fence ... it beautiful over here! Healthier me, Your quit day is only three days away so if you haven't already, start planning how you're going to deal with your cravings. Use this illness to your advantage to stop smoking. Make sure you take all your antibiotics even if you start to feel better. The best way to diminish the discomfort is to stop smoking or at least cut down until your quit day. I don't have to tell you you're aggravating your already hurtin' lungs. Only T-3 days to breathing easier. Only T-3 days to freedom. You can do it and we'll all be here when you do!
