Hi Quitter.
Sorry you are having a rough time right now. It will pass though. Try not to focus on it. The more attention you give to "wishing" you could have a smoke, will only make it last longer.
The straw that Shevie mentioned is an excellent idea! Also, make sure you are drinking A LOT of water. The more, the merrier! Force yourself if you have to. I also am hooked on Lifesavers and Werthers hard candy. I always have lots ready and available.
Take deep breaths and realize that you will pull through this. Stay strong and fight one minute at a time!

Hey quitter,
I am having the same type of day. People seem to have cycles when there craving comes back for a period and then wanes again. Hang in there. We actually keep a baseball bat in my office, less liberal places have stress balls I hear... but if nothing else, take a break! Maintaining your sanity is more important than work stuff. You'll be better at your job if you are even-keeled, I know I am.
I hope you feel better soon!
Congrats on your quit!
Meg

Thanks everyone! I actually saw the crimped-up straw idea elsewhere on the site and used it for the rest of the day. It helped, because when I'd have a thought of a cigarette I'd just pick it up and then the thought would pass.
I also went for a long walk and drank like two bottles of water. You all are smart people!
I got through yesterday, now for today! Thanks again for all your support!!

I know I'm not the only one, but it's so frustrating when I'm just sailing along, calmly putting thoughts of cigarettes out of my mind and focussing on the tasks at hand and then WHAM, I keep keep keep thinking of smoking. Probably because this is a heavy workload day, I always chain smoked my way through these.
But I WILL get through this day without smoking. Just...I want to get through it without having to leave my office and pace around the block like a rabid gorilla. ACK! HELP!
I'm TIRED of the cravings coming back!
Hi, quitter.
Find a straw, cut it to cig length, fold and crimp (bite) the "fire" end until it feels like a cig when you draw on it. Makes a great prosthetic that takes some of the edge off a crave. Plus you can "smoke" it anywhere.

Quitter,
Sounds like you are heading in the right direction on becoming a successful quitter. The most common questions when quitting smoking is dealing with withdrawal symptoms. Each smoker has different withdrawal symptoms indeed yours will be unique! Although they may be unpleasant, they do pass. When you experience withdrawal symptoms, remind yourself that each symptom is a sign of recovery. Your body is in the process of healing itself. Think of withdrawal symptoms as growing pains.
You need to come up with a plan! When a craving sets in, think about what are you going to do or what you can do to not give in! Try writing down some coping techniques to particular scenarios. Anything that takes your mind off of temptation is beneficial.
Quitting smoking is not easy and that is why we are here! We are here to help you learn on how to quit smoking and be successful. You can do this! Keep us posted and be sure to jump back on the site to let us know how you have coped with your cravings.
