has anyone ever heard of someone getting MORE migraines when they quit smoking? I get 1/year usually. Today I had my second one in a month, the last one was on day 3 of my quit. what gives? I will call the MD on Monday but I know that smoking is related to circulation and didn't know if it could be related somehow or if anyone has heard of the quit causing bad headaches this far along- I mean visual cues, nausea, the works. muah! Meg- I suffer horribly smoking or not smoking with migraines. I take depacote. While in my late twenties, they started getting more frequent - now in my thirties I was up to 17 migraines a month before I had the full work up of MRI's and CAT Scans. There was nothing wrong with me. The Depacote has helped. I tried going off of it - but my body still has them. One of the things my neurologist talked to me about is that your migraine can run on a roller coster type curve - you go through periods of more migraines than less migraines. Blood pressure is also a huge trigger for migraines. If your body is readjusting and your blood pressure lowering - you may develop migraines. Your body is adjusting. Please do your self a huge favor and talk to your doctor about it. Go to a neurologist and get something to help the pain. They are enough to drive you crazy and the last thing you want is to be discouraged while trying to quit. There are so many medicines and therapies for migraines to try, let your doctor help you through them so that your body can keep healing during the initial months of your quit. It takes time to adjust. Until your appointment, when you feel one coming on, get a huge glass of ice water and a straw, sip enough water and swirl it in your mouth until it starts warming, swallow and sip again. Try to numb your mouth with little sips for 5 - 10 minutes. This can take the intensity of the migraine down. (Some dentist in Canada found this one - I have used it and it helps.) BUT that is just a help - go see your doctor and ask for some releif. :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 2/21/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 33 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 198 Amount Saved: $44.55 Life Gained: Days: 2 Hrs: 18 Mins: 38 Seconds: 18

Meg For the last 10 days or so I have been having very bad head aches. They make me want to sleep, and are more pronounced when thay are attached to a dizzy spell. (Me Dizzy - Oh yes!) In any case these are on a list of little worries that I am checking out with my doctor. One small thing that I do know is that I got these head aches the last time I quit and they were at about the same time in the quit. I had a whole raft of tests from stress and halter monitors to MRI's and brain wave scans, months and months of tests and what I got back was that I was having an atypical migraine headache. I could have put more energy into the quit and I became frantically worried that there was something very wrong with me physically. There was nothing really and I feel like I worried for nothing. Cutting to the chase sorry about the ramble. Go to the doctor check it out and don't let the worry or stress drive you from your quit. Have a great weekend Phillip Oh and by the way I started swimming again and got back into a regular schedule and felt much better, thanks for the suggestion. Meg, If you have a symptom that persists or seems worse than you expected, you should immediately consult a doctor. Its possible that your smoking has been masking symptoms of some illness, and when you stop smoking the symptoms abruptly become noticeable.
