Hi all,
I am compelled to post these thoughts after reading that our dear Penguin has lost her quit. I am so sad to hear it, but I know how difficult it can be and I will have open arms when she is ready to give it another go.
She wrote in another post in this forum that "the Nicodemon won." That got me thinking about all the things that kill people...and then I thought more specifically about things that can't kill people without people and came to the conclusion that cigarettes are among these things.
3 things. Big things.
Ironically, the big three are also a government agency, namely Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms! These three things require people in order to perform their function. A person has to consciously put a cigarette in their mouth, light it and inhale its deadly smoke.
It's a CHOICE, and there's no rationale for making the wrong one. Call it addiction, call it craving, call it anything you want, but under that sugar coating is WEAKNESS. Human frailty.
I'm not saying I'm better than anyone because I am maintaining my quit. I've been weak and have failed before, so it would be ridiculously arrogant for me to talk down to anyone's lost quit, especially at 11 days. :p
I assert this perspective in hopes that it will inspire thought, inspire willpower, help someone bolster their determination, give them strength. I only wish for all of us to be able to quit and stay quit, and if this point of view can be valuable to anyone's quit toolbox, then I have done good, even if it's a little hard to swallow.
Strength be with us!
