Junkie thoughts????

BJ, I still get them, but they are just that... thoughts. You can't stop a bird from flying over your head and cr@pping in your hair, but you CAN stop it from making a nest and having little baby birds who cr@p there all the time. In other words, when you get a "junkie thought" just treat it as that... a thought. Dismiss it immediately. Hell, sometimes I laugh at them because they're just so dang ridiculous. What you CAN'T do is keep thinking about it, romaniticize it, or make love to the thought. When you do that, you're letting the thought make a nest and have babies who will cr@p on your head constantly! Just knock that bird out of your hair and go on about your life. Sure, there'll be times when a thought pops in your head, but don't get mad that you're still having these thoughts... just dismiss it and go on. Eventually, you won't have them as much if at all. And that bird will quit cr@pping on your head. :) Crave the Quit! Hi, BJ. Congratulations on 23 days quit. :) Mine were pretty much gone in about 3 - 4 months, I think. They just slowly die out so it's really hard to put a time frame on it, plus everyone is different. It's like asking someone when their hair turned grey. BJ one of the many remarkable things about the brain is that it can not remember pain. Yes we can remember that it hurt like hell, but the actual pain is just not there. Today as I post this the same thing applies for me and the "junkie thoughts" or crave if you would. They are just not there anymore. Everyone is different and this is a mindset that only you can control. They do go away and that is a fact. Hope this helps you with this problem. during my first year of being quit, I would think of smoking when a crisis would arise....when I would be hit with some stressful situation.....when I became angry over anything....I guess you might call the thoughts a crave....it wouldn't last....it was more like a "dang it what is wrong here" and then realizing it was that I was used to handling the situation by lighting up....then there might be a slight, but sudden twinge or desire to light up. It was sort of weird....a crave but not a crave. Those times became further and further apart as I learned to handle lifes situations and curve balls without smoking. I do NOT think of smoking anymore....not even during a crisis. I DO realize that if I were to take a puff, I would be back down the tubes....I am a nicotine junky.....but at this point I feel free.....and I intend to keep my freedom!
