food tastes AWFUL

Meg, Each smoker has different withdrawal symptoms - yours will be unique. Although they may be unpleasant, they do pass. When you experience withdrawal symptoms, remind yourself that each symptom is a sign of recovery - your body is in the process of healing itself. Think of withdrawal symptoms as growing pains. If you have a symptom that persists or seems worse than you expected, you should immediately consult a doctor. Its possible that your smoking has been masking symptoms of some illness, and when you stop smoking the symptoms abruptly become noticeable. All right, don't hate me, it doesn't stop me from eating a lot of it or anything- but really, it tastes bitter. Especially things with sugar or fake sweetener taste almost peppery. I kept throwing perfectly good food away yesterday thinking it was toxic- and then today forced myself to eat questionable sushi (never a good idea, by the way) because I thought it was my taste buds playing tricks again... what gives? Is this smoking related? It's been happening for 2-3 days, sinuses are a little off but nothing major. I thought food was supposed to taste better! Anyone else's food tasting yucky the second week of their quit? Thanks! Thanks Shevie and Melanie! I thought I was an expert on sinus infections and that didn't occur to me, but it totally makes sense. I'll give it 24 hours. Stupid Murphy's Law. I'm getting sick when it's 70 and sunny in PA this weekend and my lungs are finally at full capacity to play outside :) Oh well, SO much better than the alternative (smoking and too lazy to do anything anyway) I love that I made this choice! Hi, MegRS. Congratulations on 12 days quit. That's a fantastic accomplishment! I've heard a lot of people say food tastes better or (like me) little change, but I've never heard of anyone's food tasting worse. Taste and smell are closely linked, and smoking affected both. I have had lots of experience with sinus infections and I know I've had times when a low-grade infection would upset taste and smell before any other symptoms were noticed. People often have sinus problems soon after quitting. If it's really bothersome, you may want to have your doctor take a look. Some antibiotics may be in order, although sometimes those are worse than the cure (sulfa drugs for sinus infections). :gasp: Shevie My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/23/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 290 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 5,812 Amount Saved: $1102 Life Gained: Days: 54 Hrs: 4 Mins: 14 Seconds: 35
