I have been smoking regularly for about 6 years. I want to quit for health reasons, my daughter, etc. The thing is that it's very relaxing, and I enjoy doing it. Help please!

Well aposie You have to realize that smoking is not a good thing. As long as you think it is and that you enjoy it, you will never achieve your quit. You have to hate it so much that you are willing to go through a lot of pain to give it up. Please read the Dear John Letter to a cigarette in one of the forums. It says it all. You are worth this quit and we all want to see you succeed. aposie, Ah, the relaxation of smoking! As nicotine addicts we are lulled into a false sense of security by nicotines affect on us. As Shevie wrote, the relaxation part is a sham. All you are doing when you smoke is to quell the cravings you get from withdrawal. As soon as you crush out that cigarette your body goes into withdrawals. As time passes you get edgy, nervous and guess what? You have a cigarette and it "relaxes" you. No, it just feeds your addiction to nicotine. There is nothing in a cigarette that causes true relaxation. Learn the facts about the hellish addiction to cigarettes and how that poison that the big tobacco companies have sold us is killing us one by one. You are a very young smoker, now is the perfect time to take your life back. Don't think for a moment that you can't do this. Don't think for a moment that you are denying yourself anything. Hi, aposie. Congratulations on your decision to quit smoking and welcome to the SSC. The relaxation smoking provides is a sham. About a half hour, or so, after your last smoke your nicotine levels have dropped to the point that your body begins craving it. At first it isn't readily noticeable, but if you don't provide the "fix", it will increase noticeably until you do. Then when you smoke the cessation of the withdrawal symptoms is what feels like relaxation. The reality is the cigarette is causing the stress, not relieving it.
