well, i don't post often at all, but i tonight i had the real test....i have not had a butt in 24 days, of course with some craving, but doing quite alright, and tonight my grandmother died and this is the first time i have ever had something hit me and i don't have that crutch. You should know that i am not torn up over the death, really never had much of a relationship with her, but that in itself is affecting me, and not having that cig, well - it's just weird, and of couse i have a friend that tells me in an IM that she's going to go smoke one - that was a bit annoying. i have no plan hop over to the store, but the thought does hit me every so often (that great pit of the stomach feeling that last only seconds, but man does it do a job), god a drag would be (nasty, gross, disgusting, unhealthy, not worth having to quit all over again) nice! oh well, just had to vent - sorry to all if you read this!! i'll get over it. take care, and remember - if i can do it......u can too! NO MORE BUTTS! Cigarettes Not Smoked

Obrmom..... It's so horrible what this addiction can do to us - using the death of someone to create an excuse to smoke.....I too have "thoughts" of the death of my loved ones. Not because they are on death's door (thank God) but because my inner junkie thinks THAT is the day I will cave in and begin smoking again. That's the most stressful situation nicodemon can think of for me, and I HAVE thought about it.......and immediately I catch myself and say "what the HE** are you doing, these are HORRIBLE thoughts!" So.....I think we can all relate to you, that the junkie thoughts are sitting somewhere in the back of our minds, waiting for that one moment where anxiety builds, and the thought POPS out and BOOM - cravings again. You can do this. Having a cigarette now won't make you feel better, won't help you deal with your emotions. Remember that and you'll get thru...... Condolences and stay strong! My Milage: My Quit Date: 12/19/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 55 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 831 Amount Saved: $371.25 Life Gained: Days: 5 Hrs: 0 Mins: 7 Seconds: 42

Sorry to hear of the death of your Grandmother. Death is always stressful, even if you are not close to that person. It may bring up feelings of our own mortality. Please be careful around smokers as you deal with this, since there are many who like to be "helpful" and may offer a cig in moments of stress. Keep Strong. 24 Days is great! Hi obrmom, It has been my experience so far that no matter what the situation, once I experience it WITHOUT smoking, the next time is easier. You mention the one thing that has always worried me. The loss of family member. I basically tell myself that "I will not smoke no matter what." (However, if something happened to my husband or young son I'm not sure 'I' would want to go on. So, I just try not to go there. One can't dwell on such things and enjoy life.) You seem to have a good handle on your feelings and a great attitude. That coupled with your humor is a good sign. I think I was having the blaaaas at 24 days so you are doing SUPER! Keep it up! ~all the best N2k My Milage: My Quit Date: 8/20/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 176 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 3,873 Amount Saved: $880 Life Gained: Days: 16 Hrs: 17 Mins: 4 Seconds: 30

Orbmom, I know this is rough, but you CAN do this smoke free!!! It may be a little hard at first, but like N2k said, the next time something happens, it'll be easier because you'll have this experience to lean on. Keep up the awesome quit! Crave the Quit!
