Another med ( Lithium)

Hi, I've lost track of the number of combinations of antidepressants and moodstabilizers I have been on over the years. Lithium is the "gold standard" mood stabilizer (you probably know that) and the dr's first choice. I couldn't tolerate it - made me put on weight and for other medical reasons that couldn't be allowed. Second choice is Divalproex. Worked for me for years. Currently I am off all pure mood stabilizers as my mania is very small, more hypo mania (just baby ones) but my depressions are strong - have been suicidal strong. I really don't need a drug keeping the top off. And it sure wasn't working in raising the bottom of the depression. I too am on a large number of medications for this. 2 levels of Welbutrin, Topomax, Lamotrigine, amytriptline (also used for headache relief) and a sleeping pill to counter act all of those. I also have anxiety pill at my disposal for those times I simply cannot cope. And right now, I am relatively stable. You just have to keep trying. It's hard to be patient. I know. But something will work for you. Suzy

dark, Thanks for sharing with us. Unfortunately we are unable to advise you about medications and dosages. The members are free to share their experiences with you for better knowledge. Continue to work with your doctor to come up with a plan that is right for you and your body. Be forward and active in your own progress. Have a list of questions, advise what is working, what is not, will exercise help? Will change in diet make a difference? Try the program and use this as a guide to become active, and continue to inform your doctor. They know your body and your history. We look forward to hearing from you :) Josie, Support Specialist

I am now entering my 5th month relapse. My doctor has tried me on different drugs to bring me out of this. I'm presentlty taking 300 mg of Lithium, a drug I don't know too much about. It doesn't seem to be working. It only seems to take me deeper into my depression. I want to hide more and talk even less. What reaction does anyone out there have with lithium. How is this drug suppose to work? I take 9 pills a day of these antidepressants and mood stabilizers and I seem to get no futher in my relief from this depression. I take all my meds on time everyday and see my doc every two weeks. When and if, will I ever get better. I leave alcohol alone as I know the potential danger there.I just keep trying and feel like I am getting nowhere.
