I've only been getting help for depression for the last six months. I'm still in the middle of finding something that works. It's been very frustrating. I started on Prozac then added Wellbutrin SR. Now it appears that the Wellbutrin is not working very well so I'm transitioning off it and onto Lexapro. The whole pill thing is sometimes hard to deal with. But I try to tell myself that it is 1) saving my life and 2) making my mood a little less volatile. Some days that's hard to buy into but what choice is there? I've self-medicated for over thirty years which has proved to be highly counter-productive. The depressions have become so severe in the last several years that, without help, I wouldn't be sitting here typing away. Sometimes it seems like a "leap of faith" to get from one day to the next trying to believe that things will get better. But today's a better day for me and it's not so hard to hang onto that hope (today -- I don't know about tomorrow).

I just posted something to some other thread about this, I have been taking Celexa and WElbutrin for 4-5 years (for moderate depression) and I am starting to be afraid it is wearing off. But I am also afraid of switching meds becuase the transition period would be unberable for me and everyone around me. I definitely hear you about "I just want my life to be normal". You get so sick of taking pills every single day and god forbid you miss a day, or you're sick for a few days and can't keep pills down, or you forgot to refill your scrip. but you know, i guess some of us have no choice. Imagine if you were diabetic and instead of a pill, you had to give yourself an insulin shot every day. Depression is such a weird disease that it's easy to forget that even though it twists your brain so much that you forget, it is a disease.

Oh, I just want my life to be normal. Can I handle the medications losing effect for the rest of my life? I believe it's the rest of my life, because my life has been this way since I was young, I just didn't know that it wasn't just me.

In my 20+ years of struggling with this condition, and having resisted medication until the SSRI's came along, I've taken a variety of medications. prozac is well known for pooping out. zoloft and trazodone did the same thing after awhile. i've been on effexorXR for years now and over the last year its impact seems to be diminishing. it's scary being on this stuff in the first place and then when it stops working and i can't get an explanation from the MDs and can't find research on why, well.... at some point i had to say that my life on them is certainly better than the alternative.

Is it possible that this buildup in medication has happened to me? I've been taking 10mg of lexapro for the past 2 1/2 months, and 100mg Trazadone at night, and now 100mg wellbutrinSR 2X daily for the past month. And after a little while I was feeling a little more peace and enthusiam, but recently my depression symptoms, crying, sadness, lack of motivation etc. have returned. I'm seeing my Dr. tomorrow, but has anyone else had this experience?

Hi Gerry. New medications are coming out all the time. Some medications can build up a little in your system over time too, so your doctor wants to give you the best treatment possible. If something does not seem to be helping you, it's natural for him or her to prescribe something else.

For 15 years I've been taking pills and it seems they wear off everynow and then because the doctor takes me off some and puts me on others every few monts does anyone else go threw this.
