No More NRTs

Back to the topic at hand on NRTs... today is my first day on the lowest patch. I went from a 14 to a 7 and have thought a ton about it today. I am nervous about what will happen at the end of this week. I am on vacation next week which will be a HUGE test. I wonder if I can do the last patch for two weeks instead of one just to make my vacation quit time a little easier... any thoughts? i was wondering about the SSC IM as well.. i hardly ever see anyone out there. I wonder if it has to do with having to download the software? Then again - waiting to see a post has not been a bad thing. When I have been having the "crazies" posting and then waiting for a reply has helped the craving pass. I have been lately fascinated by the number of cigarettes NOT smoked. They add up SO FAST. Also the life gained - wonder what i will do with my extra day. I know what i WON'T be doing! nope. Congrats to you Cheermom. I know all too well the feeling of wanting to get the nicotine out of your body once and for all. I felt that way coming off of my NRT as well. They helped give me the added courage ... but once I realized I was not afraid anymore ... I wanted the nicotine ... GONE! LOL about your comments regarding your daughter setting up your workout appt.! Enjoy your personal trainer ... they can really help a lot ... they are great motivators. I use the ssc im ... not a lot of people sign on. I'll add you to my buddy list. Feel free to im me anytime you see me on. Zazz, I am also facinated at how quickly the cigs add up. I love the fact I have skipped over 317 cigs and it almost discusts me that I did smoke. I just can't phathom how many 317 smokes is. I drew at work 317 lines on a piece of paper and oh wow, I am so glad I didn't wait longer to quit. ewwwwwwww. Anyways, Thanks Breaking Free, I've added you also, along with Zazz. I went off my prescribed NRT (Nicotrol Inhaler) quite a bit earlier than I thought possible. I had to overcome the thought of "wasting money" as this prescription was quite expensive and I only used 8 out of 168 vials. I just didn't need them and I want to live my life for once. I did have a rough weekend as a couple of you know (thanks Lady for helping me through my rough points over the weekend on SSC IM). But yesterday was the start of such a great outlook. I realize I will have more "bad" days ahead but even MORE great days in comparison. All you newbies better not give up because with the support here, that isn't necessary ;) Too many people here willing to hold your hand through the rough parts (and boy I've had them and will still have them down the road). I am just ecstatic that I was able to put the NRT aside and go jumping into my quit feet first. Oh and I have to show up for my workout at Bally's. Looks like my daughter made sure I had to show up by scheduling a Personal Trainer this once so that I know how to exercise properly (how kind of her). Does anyone ever use the SSC IM? Very rarely do I see anyone logged on to the instant messaging here. I say stay on two weeks instead of one if you're having serious doubts. one week isn't very long to give yourself to do a gradual withdrawal, which is what the patch is designed for. I think what you'd be doing is piling up your withdrawals, because although stepping down on the patch is nowhere NEAR as hard as quitting smoking, there is anxiety and some physical symptoms. It takes some time to get adjusted to each patch and while I don't think you should get all comfy and happy on 7 mg of nicotine for two months or anything, I think you'll be surprised how easy it is to let go of the patch after two weeks. After one, it may be more of a challenge, you may find yourself having panicky cravings....especially on a vacation, which will have lots of triggers. I was on the 7mg patch on a weekend away early in my quit and I almost chewed the drapes I wanted a cigarette so bad. It was the motel thing, I think. Anyway, you made the decision to use an NRT for a reason, go ahead and use it to succeed at your quit, I think. Using the patch for an extra week is so much better than smoking. But, of course, it's your decision to make. If you feel like you're ready to be nekkid, go for it and good for you! Don't let me discourage you. It's all about what you feel will help you not smoke, and if you know you won't smoke with or without the patch, then do it to it! Oh and hoo-ray for the personal trainer! Good for your daughter!
